Job Summary

We are seeking a results-oriented candidate who has demonstrated drive, dedication, professionalism, and a positive attitude to join a team with an exciting opportunity for growth. The Business Development Manager will serve as a trusted business development partner to Jackson Lewis's NYC, White Plains, Long Island, Albany, Philadelphia, and Berkeley Heights offices, as well as the Restaurants industry group. The Manager will build strong relationships with office leadership and lawyers, develop a deep understanding of each office's clients, capabilities, priorities, and markets, and drive participation in firmwide and office-specific business development initiatives. Working closely with firm leadership, Regional Coordinators (RCs), Office Managing Principals (OMPs), Office Business Development Liaisons (OBDLs), and the broader Marketing and Business Development (MBD) team, the Manager will develop and implement strategic growth, client development, marketing, and external communications programs that support articulated goals.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the primary business development partner for the assigned offices, developing trusted relationships with OMPs, OBDLs, practice and industry leaders, partners, and other key stakeholders. Maintain a regular cadence of communication and engagement with office leadership and lawyers through individual meetings, planning sessions, and business development updates.
  • Develop a strong understanding of each office's clients, capabilities, talent, market position, and growth priorities, and translate those insights into actionable, office-specific business development plans focused on generating new business, expanding client relationships, and enhancing market visibility, and aligned with broader firm, regional, practice, and industry strategies.
  • Build awareness of and drive participation in firmwide, regional, and office-specific business development initiatives. Identify barriers to engagement, solicit feedback, and adapt programs and communications to increase adoption and effectiveness.
  • Connect lawyers and opportunities across the assigned offices, practices, and industry groups to facilitate cross-selling, collaboration, referrals, and the sharing of successful approaches.
  • Partner with the firm's dedicated Proposal Team and Strategic Intelligence Team, as needed, to provide targeted support for pitches and proposals involving attorneys in assigned offices and groups, including providing strategic and client context, coordinating attorney input, identifying relevant experience and credentials, and supporting follow-up, as needed.
  • Use CRM data and other metrics to evaluate business development activity, pipeline development, participation, and outcomes. Provide regular reports and actionable recommendations to office and firm leadership.
  • Coach lawyers individually and in groups to strengthen their business development skills, expand internal and external networks, generate leads and referrals, and advance opportunities.
  • Provide marketing and business development support for lateral attorneys joining assigned offices and groups, including creating plans, managing onboarding, and tracking/managing progress.
  • Collaborate with the Events team on event strategy, including developing mailing lists and leading post-event/conference follow-up. Evaluate ROI and leverage experience to continuously improve strategy and processes.
  • Stay current on relevant legal, business, industry, and regional market trends and share actionable insights with lawyers, office leadership, and the broader firm.


Qualifications/Skills Required

  • Proactive relationship manager with demonstrated ability to build credibility and trusted relationships with senior leaders and professionals across multiple offices and business units.
  • Strong consultative and influencing skills, with experience generating enthusiasm for and increasing participation in business development initiatives.
  • Ability to understand differing office cultures, priorities, and market dynamics while aligning stakeholders around broader organizational objectives.
  • Experience developing and executing office-, market-, or region-specific business development plans in a law firm or other professional-services environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel among assigned offices if required to maintain a visible presence and build strong relationships with office leadership and lawyers.
  • Strategic thinker who understands how to evaluate external market factors and internal capabilities to identify priorities and points of differentiation.
  • Solid understanding of legal industry financials and KPIs.
  • A collaborative, team-focused, positive attitude. Excellent judgement when dealing with firm leaders, lawyers, and team members, including outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment, strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail; strong editing and proofreading capabilities.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Database experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, social media platforms.

Educational Requirements
  • A minimum of 7 years of business development and/or marketing related experience in a law firm or other professional service. A college degree is required. An advanced degree is preferred.

For the New York City Metro are, the expected salary range for this position is between $140,000 and $155,000. This position is also eligible for annual bonuses. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
