Full Job Description
We are seeking a strategic, collaborative, and results-oriented Business Development Manager to manage marketing and business development initiatives for designated litigation practices. The Business Development Manager is responsible for implementing practice level strategies to develop business with current and prospective clients and serves as primary contact for marketing and business development requests.

Strategy, Market Intelligence & Performance
Partner with attorneys to identify individual and practice business objectives, recommend strategic opportunities, develop strategic plans, and conduct follow-up to drive results. Lead coordinated business development initiatives across designated practices and teams while conducting research, monitoring client and industry news, and maintaining competitive analyses to identify emerging trends and growth opportunities. Track and evaluate the outcomes of business development activities and provide recommendations to senior management and attorneys to inform future strategy and investment.

Proposals, Content & Reputation Building
Develop Request for Proposal responses and customized pitch materials that leverage firm resources and expertise. Collaborate with business managers and other departments to prepare financial analyses supporting proposals, pitches, and client requests, while maintaining proposal-related information for future use. Work with the Marketing Communication and Technology team to oversee the development of practice brochures, attorney biographies, newsletters, presentations, and website content, ensuring quality and consistency with the firm's brand messaging. Partner with the Public Relations team to develop media opportunities, speaking engagements, and by-line articles, and compile attorney and practice group information for directories, award submissions, and league tables.

Client Engagement & Relationship Management
Manage the execution of client events and sponsorship opportunities, including budget development, cost-containment planning, logistical coordination, and return-on-investment analysis. Oversee the development of targeted client mailing lists through the firm's contact relationship management software to support relevant, timely communications and strengthen client relationships.

Department Operations & Team Development
Support Marketing & Business Development leadership in establishing department policies and procedures, recommending best practices for technology and resource use, and pursuing relevant training opportunities. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff and new team members to promote effective collaboration, professional growth, and consistent delivery of high-quality business development support.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's degree required.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience managing projects or processes required, preferably in a law firm, professional services, or other client relationship-based organization. Knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
Other Qualifications: Compliance with Firm in-office policy required. Travel may be required. Availability and willingness to work long hours as needed to meet critical deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications. Strong commitment to client service excellence and teamwork. Must possess the highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism. Must act as catalyst for change, drive and own results. Creative and innovative. Excellent communication skills (oral, written and listening) and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse group of professionals. Sound judgment and flexibility. Ability to work well under pressure, patience, diplomacy, high stress tolerance, excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions. Visual acuity needed to process and read extensive written communications. Ability to receive and convey detailed information through oral communication. The expected salary range for Washington, DC based employees is $139,000-$185,000, though salaries for employees based outside of Washington, DC may differ. Beyond an employment candidate's physical location, salary offers may be based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, training and/or experience.

The expected salary range for New York City, NY based employees is $160,000-$190,000, though salaries for employees based outside of New York City, NY may differ. Beyond an employment candidate's physical location, salary offers may be based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, training and/or experience.

The expected salary range for Richmond, VA based employees is $121,000-$169,000, though salaries for employees based outside of Richmond, VA may differ. Beyond an employment candidate's physical location, salary offers may be based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, training and/or experience.
