About the RoleThe Business Controller will provide financial leadership and support to Sales, Operations, and Plant Management. This role will monitor financial performance, analyze trends and opportunities, support budgeting and forecasting, and provide meaningful financial insight to help improve business results.
Responsibilities:- Partner closely with the VPs of Sales and Operations and Plant Managers as a key member of the management team.
- Identify opportunities to improve results and generate savings through financial analysis and business initiatives.
- Participate in the hiring and recruiting of location Office Managers.
- Provide financial statement analysis training and support to Plant Managers.
- Listen to Operations feedback and identify opportunities for improvement that can be quantified.
- Monitor month-end closing activities, including billing/invoicing, physical inventory, A/P accruals, intercompany transactions, cut-offs, and month-end checklists.
- Review monthly P&Ls with Regional Operations VPs and Plant Managers and investigate irregularities and trends related to sales mix, materials, labor, transportation costs, and margins.
- Visit plants as needed to conduct mini-audits focused on inventory, sales, and purchasing transactions while serving as a financial resource to plant management.
- Monitor accounts receivable collections and ensure past-due accounts are appropriately managed.
- Partner with Sales and Operations leadership to establish annual plant sales budgets by major channel and month.
- Assist with the annual P&L budgeting process and provide guidance for budget uploads to JDE.
- Complete quarterly sales analysis with Regional Sales Management.
- Assist with regional financial presentations and information for the annual key managers meeting.
- Review and approve semi-annual cost updates prepared by plant personnel.
- Provide guidance and oversight for year-end physical inventory and conduct internal inventory audits at plants.
- Complete special projects and ad-hoc financial analyses to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Provide financial support for capital projects.
- Review customer and product delivered margins and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Evaluate proposed changes to service plants and customer ship-to locations to ensure they are supported by legitimate business reasons and are financially justified.
Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Manufacturing, homebuilding, or construction experience preferred, but not required.
- Proven experience as an Accounting Manager, Accounting Supervisor, or Finance Manager.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and standards.
- CPA preferred, but not required.
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience with accounting software and databases.
- JD Edwards experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to manipulate and analyze large amounts of data.
