What this job involves:

As a Building Automation Systems Manager at JLL, you'll lead technical operations and strategic oversight of sophisticated building automation infrastructure across critical facilities portfolios. This role positions you as both a technical authority and operational leader, responsible for ensuring that building management systems, controls infrastructure, and automation platforms deliver optimal performance, reliability, and value. You'll oversee the calibration, commissioning, optimization, and continuous improvement of BAS installations while managing technical teams and vendor partnerships that support mission-critical operations. Your expertise will directly influence energy efficiency, operational continuity, and occupant comfort across world-class facilities.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Lead and manage building automation systems operations across assigned facilities, ensuring system reliability, performance optimization, and compliance with client requirements and industry standards
  • Oversee calibration programs for instrumentation and control devices, establishing schedules, quality standards, and documentation protocols that ensure measurement accuracy and regulatory compliance
  • Manage technical teams including automation engineers, calibration technicians, and controls specialists, providing guidance, training, and performance development
  • Develop and execute strategic plans for BAS infrastructure upgrades, system integrations, and technology modernization initiatives aligned with client objectives
  • Collaborate with facility management, engineering leadership, and client stakeholders to identify operational requirements, resolve technical challenges, and deliver continuous improvement
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators for automation systems including uptime, energy efficiency, response times, and maintenance effectiveness
  • Coordinate commissioning and retro-commissioning projects, ensuring proper validation of control sequences, sensor accuracy, and system functionality
  • Manage vendor relationships and service contracts for controls systems, ensuring quality delivery, cost effectiveness, and technical compliance
  • Review and approve control drawings, specifications, system architectures, and integration plans for new installations and system modifications Implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs that minimize downtime and extend equipment lifecycles
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in building automation, IoT integration, and smart building solutions
  • Ensure cybersecurity protocols and network security standards are maintained across building automation and control systems
  • Oversee integration and management of fault diagnostic detection program


Required qualifications: •
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in building automation systems, controls engineering, or facilities technology with demonstrated technical leadership
  • Proven experience managing technical teams, projects, and vendor relationships in commercial or industrial facility environments
  • Expert knowledge of building automation platforms such as Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Tridium, or similar systems
  • Strong understanding of calibration principles, instrumentation technologies, and quality management systems for measurement equipment
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting control drawings, system architectures, network diagrams, and technical specifications
  • Solid understanding of HVAC systems, control theory, energy management strategies, and building performance optimization
  • Experience with project management, budget oversight, and resource allocation for technical operations Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with track record of driving operational improvements
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and compliance in all aspects of technical operations


Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Automation, Controls Engineering, or related technical field
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Automation Certified Professional (BACP), ISA Certified Automation rofessional (CAP), or manufacturer-specific advanced certifications
  • Experience managing automation systems in mission-critical environments such as data centers, life sciences facilities, healthcare campuses, or high-performance commercial buildings
  • ASHRAE guidelines, and industry regulations related to controls and calibration
  • Familiarity with IoT platforms, cloud-based building analytics, fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) systems, and AI-enabled building technologies
  • Experience with BAS cybersecurity frameworks, network segmentation strategies, infrastructure modernization, or digital transformation initiatives


Estimated compensation for this position:

80,000.00 - 100,000.00 CAD per year

This range represents the estimated base salary and actual compensation may differ. Final base salary is determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations. Some roles and employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses, benefits, or other compensation.
