Full Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION

FOX News Media is seeking an experienced Broadcast & Media Technology Project Manager to lead complex technology initiatives across studio operations, live broadcast production, contribution/transmission networks, Media Asset Management (MAM) pipelines, and fast-turnaround content creation/editing environments.

This role will manage projects from initial discovery and technical requirements gathering through solution delivery, systems integration, testing, commissioning, and transition to 24/7 broadcast operations. The successful candidate will collaborate closely across broadcast engineering, studio operations, control rooms, post-production, editorial, transmission, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and external systems integrators/vendors.

The ideal candidate combines disciplined project management practices with a strong technical understanding of how broadcast content moves from field capture/ingest through studio control rooms, non-linear editing (NLE) suites, central MAM repositories, master control/playout, and multi-path transmission.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITES
Project Delivery and Governance
  • Lead the full project lifecycle, including discovery, scoping, technical design coordination, procurement, installation, integration, testing, commissioning, cutover, hypercare, and operational handover.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project plans covering work breakdown structures, milestones, critical paths, dependencies, hardware/software lead times, risks, issues, and capital/operating budgets.
  • Establish governance routines, engineering working sessions, steering committee reporting, and change-control decision forums.
  • Coordinate workstreams across broadcast engineering, studio tech, transmission/traffic, newsroom operations, editing/post-production, IT infrastructure, and third-party vendors/systems integrators.
  • Track delivery against broadcast milestones, schedule, budget, quality standards, and operational-readiness criteria.
  • Maintain rigorous project documentation, including functional specs, system schematics coordination, rack elevations, acceptance test plans (ATP), cutover runbooks, and handover documentation.
Broadcast & Media Technology Delivery
  • Lead initiatives involving production switchers, audio consoles, studio cameras, robotics, multi-viewers, tally/intercom systems (e.g., Riedel, RTS), broadcast graphics (e.g., Vizrt), and virtual/augmented reality studio tech.
  • Oversee deployments for field acquisition, bonded cellular (e.g., LiveU, Dejero), satellite/fiber contribution, IP contribution protocols (SRT, RIST, Zixi), and baseband/IP ingest pipelines.
  • Manage MAM implementations, metadata schema standardization, ingest automation, nearline/deep archive tiers, LTO/cloud storage lifecycles, and media supply chain orchestration.
  • Drive technical delivery for non-linear editing (NLE) platforms (Adobe Premiere, Avid Media Composer), shared production storage (SAN/NAS/Isilon/Avid NEXIS), fast-turnaround news editing, and transcode/QC workflows.
  • Coordinate projects for playout automation, routing matrices (SDI and IP), primary/backup transmission paths, satellite uplink/downlink, terrestrial fiber circuits, and disaster recovery (DR) facilities.
  • Facilitate technical integration between newsroom systems (e.g., iNEWS, ENPS), rundown automation, prompters, and playback servers.
  • Translate operational and editorial requirements into clear engineering workstreams and technical deliverables.
  • Support infrastructure modernization and technology refreshes, such as SDI-to-ST 2110 IP transitions, cloud-assisted production, and hybrid on-prem/cloud workflows.
  • Coordinate technical design reviews alongside Principal Engineers, Systems Architects, and Technical Leads.
Live Operations, Commissioning & Deployment Readiness
  • Plan and direct factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), end-to-end rehearsal workflows, operational shadow periods, cutovers, and rollback strategies.
  • Schedule and oversee maintenance windows and deployment sequencing to ensure zero disruption to on-air linear feeds and 24/7 live studio operations.
  • Partner with Broadcast Operations and Engineering teams to establish support escalation models, monitoring/telemetry dashboards, signal path redundancies, runbooks, and SOPs.
  • Coordinate comprehensive operational training and knowledge transfer for operators, directors, editors, engineers, and technicians prior to on-air cutover.
Technology Modernization & Continuous Improvement
  • Partner with engineering leads to evaluate emerging broadcast standards (SMPTE ST 2110, NMOS, NDI) and cloud/virtualized production platforms.
  • Identify workflow bottlenecks in the content creation and turnaround pipeline, introducing automation for ingest, transcode, QC, and archiving.
  • Promote standard operating procedures and best-practice deployment frameworks across all broadcast and studio facilities.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Media Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent practical industry experience.
  • Technology project management experience, with experience directly managing broadcast engineering, studio facility, transmission, or media production technology projects.
  • Proven track record leading projects through technical scoping, RFP/vendor evaluation, rack/facility buildout, systems integration, commissioning, and on-air cutover.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge across core broadcast domains, including:
    • Studio production, PCR/TCR control rooms, routing, and intercom systems.
    • Live contribution (SRT, RIST, ASI, Satellite, Fiber) and transmission pipelines.
    • MAM systems, automated transcode engines, and shared editing storage (SAN/NAS).
    • Post-production and NLE workflows (Avid, Adobe, automated QC).
    • Newsroom Computer Systems (NRCS) and broadcast automation/playout.
  • Solid grasp of broadcast video/audio signals and protocols (Baseband SDI, SMPTE ST 2110, AES67, Dante, PTP timing, MPEG-TS).
  • Experience coordinating structured acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) and high-stakes, off-hours facility cutovers with tight change-window constraints.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Visio/Lucidchart).
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to bridge conversations between on-air talent/editorial teams and deep technical engineering specialists.
  • Experience leading facility buildouts, studio relocations, or control room overhauls.
  • Practical knowledge of IP media network architecture (SMPTE ST 2110, ST 2022-6/7, NMOS IS-04/IS-05).
  • Experience with broadcast equipment vendors and platforms (e.g., Grass Valley, Evertz, Ross Video, Sony, Avid, Imagine Communications, Vizrt, Harmonic, Telestream).
  • Familiarity with hybrid/cloud-based media workflows in AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience managing external Systems Integrators (SIs) and broadcast equipment hardware vendors.
  • Relevant industry certifications: PMP, CAPM, or technical broadcast certifications (e.g., SBE - Society of Broadcast Engineers certifications).
