Responsibilities

This position can sit out of our Mooresville, NC, Raleigh, NC, Greenville, SC or Columbia, SC offices.

This Opportunity

This position will support our robust and growing Bridge Inspection Practice in the Southeast Region! Be involved in projects and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges. This is an opportunity for a strong bridge inspection team leader to move into a role with solid advancement opportunities and a chance to grow a strong team supporting bridge inspection projects in the region.

The Team Leader shall use his/her education, licensure, and relevant work experience to perform independent and complete evaluation of the condition, function and load carrying capacity of bridges and their individual components. These evaluations may form the basis of recommendations to bridge owners for repair, rehabilitation, or replacement.

Your Impact
  • Plan, schedule and perform bridge inspections in accordance with the requirements of specific Bridge Owners, but in all cases, in compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation.
  • Use engineering, technical knowledge, and perform field work inspecting bridges throughout the Southeast for deterioration and structural damage with the intent of keeping the public safe and our road systems in good working condition.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise bridge inspection reports using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebook/logs.
  • Perform engineering calculations on various bridge repair designs, bridge load ratings, and construction inspections
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures to ensure work is completed in a correct manner.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a construction related discipline or relevant construction related job experience or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in bridge design and/or bridge inspection
  • NHI Course 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges Certificate
  • Proficient self-discipline with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Physically capable of performing field work including climbing ladders (40ft or less) and in close quarters, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, etc.
  • Proficiency/Comfortable using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel/overnight travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements and project location.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  • Additional FHWA/NHI Training - (130078) Bridge Inspection Techniques for Nonredundant Steel Tension Members (NSTM)
  • Experience with drafting software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.)
  • Experience with engineering calculation software (AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR), Mathcad, Sap2000, etc.).
  • Comfortable working at heights (40ft+) and interest in working on ropes (obtaining SPRAT Certification).
  • Enjoys getting out of the office, working outdoors, and seeing the world
  • Experience with Inspecting Complex Bridges
  • FAA Part 107 certification or interest in UAS Drone flying
  • Familiarity with or certifications in various NDT techniques
  • Interest in Programming and/or experience with databases, data analytics, or APIs.
