Description & Requirements

The Biostatistician leads the development and operationalization of advanced analytics, including predictive modeling, machine learning, and emerging LLM/NLP capabilities, to enhance mission readiness and the well-being of SOF personnel. This position designs and implements robust analytical and data engineering solutions by integrating structured and unstructured data sources; building scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and curated datasets using SQL Server, Databricks, and Apache Spark (PySpark); and applying strong data quality, performance tuning, and repeatability practices to ensure trusted, mission-ready data products. The role provides expert consultation to translate operational needs into defensible analytical approaches, execute data experiments, and deliver actionable intelligence that supports human performance optimization and strategic decision-making.

U.S. citizenship is required. Candidates must possess an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance or be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance as required for contract performance. This position is pending upon contract award.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Develop and deploy advanced methods to analyze operational data and derive meaningful, actionable insights for stakeholders and business development partners.

- Serve as point of contact for data and analytical usage, particularly in the appropriate uses and limitations of statistical and analytical applications.

- Analyze extracted data, identify trends and provide insights and analyses around operations and project data.

- Develop and implement new metrics, functions, and scripts as KPIs and in existing BI/Dashboards as needed.

- Ad hoc tool development to support operational and under served analytical areas.

- Learning emerging technologies and systems of need for company initiatives.

- Activities to support team communication and strategy implementation (meetings, etc.).

- Project management activities.

-Lead end-to-end analytics initiatives from problem framing and experimental design through production delivery, measurement, and iterative improvement.

-Architect and implement scalable data solutions by building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and curated datasets using SQL Server, Databricks, and Apache Spark (PySpark) or comparable tools.

-Fuse structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data sources; establish data preparation standards, reusable transformations, and documented assumptions to ensure defensibility and reproducibility.

-Implement data quality controls, manage schema changes, and optimize Spark workloads for performance, reliability, and cost.

-Develop, evaluate, and deploy predictive models and optimization approaches; communicate model behavior, limitations, and expected impact to technical teams and operational stakeholders.

-Support text-heavy and unstructured-data use cases with NLP methods and demonstrate familiarity with Large Language Models and agent-style workflows.

-Deliver decision-support products through Power BI, including semantic modeling and consistent metric definitions, and enable operational workflows using Power Apps and Power Automate.

-Provide technical leadership and consultation, including guidance on analytic methodology, code and results review, documentation standards, and collaboration with intelligence, operations, and engineering teams.

-Partner with stakeholders to deploy insights through mission-focused dashboards, semantic models, workflow-enabled applications, and other decision-support products.

Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study and 3+ years of relevant professional experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

-Master's or doctoral degree with five (5) years of experience in quantitative science, social science, or a related discipline.

-At least three (3) years of research experience in an academic, social services, government, healthcare, or laboratory setting.

-Strong proficiency in Python or R for analytics, machine learning, and data manipulation, with disciplined software practices such as modular code, testing mindset, and version control.

-Advanced SQL skills and hands-on experience with SQL Server in applied analytics and data preparation contexts.

-Demonstrated experience using Databricks and Apache Spark (PySpark), or comparable tools, to build scalable data pipelines and large-scale transformations.

-Solid understanding of data engineering concepts, including ETL/ELT design, data modeling fundamentals, data quality and validation, repeatable pipeline design, and performance optimization.

-Experience producing decision-quality visualization and reporting, preferably with Power BI, including semantic modeling and DAX familiarity.

-Excellent communication skills; highly detail oriented and organized.

-Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Access.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

-Familiarity with NLP, LLMs, and agent concepts, including data preparation, governance, and evaluation approaches for these workflows.

-Experience integrating analytics into applications and automations using Power Apps, Power Automate, Streamlit, Posit, or comparable tools.

-Experience with web application development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Django, or ASP.NET Core.

-Exposure to operationalizing models and pipelines, including scheduling/orchestration, monitoring/alerting, CI/CD concepts, logging, and traceability.
