What You Will Do:
We are looking for a Bioinformatics Scientist to provide bioinformatics and data science support to advance NIEHS's operational and research objectives. This role requires expertise in statistical genomics, machine learning, and scalable analysis and integration of high-dimensional omics data, applying AI-driven methods to generate biologically meaningful insights. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Research Triangle Park, NC.
  • Generate and optimize programs, scripts, and algorithms for analyzing large-scale biological datasets.
  • Perform computational analysis, interpret results, and produce scientific reports and data visualizations.
  • Apply machine learning approaches to analyze and integrate large-scale multi-omic datasets to identify biological insights.
  • Collaborate with scientists to design computational experiments, analyze data, and develop analytical pipelines.
  • Conduct Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis including RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, and related genomic data.
  • Perform genome-wide association studies, single-cell RNA sequencing, and multi-omics integration.
  • Develop and maintain bioinformatics infrastructure, workflows, and reproducible analytical pipelines.
  • Provide statistical support and develop novel analytical methodologies for complex biological data.
  • Prepare reports, publications, and presentations for scientific meetings and external audiences.
  • Maintain detailed documentation, lab notebooks, and analytical records; present results in lab meetings.
  • Train staff and researchers on bioinformatics tools, pipelines, and computational methods.
  • Collaborate across interdisciplinary teams and contribute to experimental design and research strategy.
  • Evaluate emerging tools, techniques, and literature to improve analytical capabilities and research outcomes.


What You Will Need:
  • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • A minimum of ONE (1) year of experience in bioinformatics, data science, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or advanced statistical modeling applied to biological data.
  • Experience working with large-scale biological datasets (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, or multi-omics data).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, MATLAB, Java, or similar.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix environments, scripting (Bash, PERL), and version control systems (Git).
  • Knowledge of workflow management systems and containerization tools (Docker, Singularity, Apptainer).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data visualization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to present technical findings. What Would Be Nice To Have:
  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, or related field.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
  • Experience developing analytical pipelines for single-cell and multi-omics data integration.
  • Familiarity with reproducible research practices and scientific workflow automation.
