Eagle Health Analytics has contracted with CDC's Mycotic Diseases Branch to provide scientific support and services for laboratory, communication and epidemiology within the Mycotic Diseases Branch. The overall objective is to provide laboratory, epidemiology, public health, and communication support to the branch as it strives to detect and respond to mycotic diseases and provide technical assistance to the United States jurisdictions.
BioinformaticianEHA will provide one Bioinformatics Specialist I to support WGS, metagenomics, outbreak investigations, applied research, pipeline/toolchain execution, database support, QA/QC, and analysis summaries. The bioinformatics approach is designed to be reproducible, documented, and compatible with CDC computing environments.
The bioinformatics specialist will:
- Receive NGS data and associated metadata from internal and external collaborators through CDC-authorized mechanisms.
- Perform raw-read QA/QC and document quality thresholds, failed runs, missing metadata, and rerun recommendations.
- Run established WGS and metagenomic pipelines for fungal pathogen detection and characterization, including CDC-approved open-source or commercial tools as directed.
- Support design, testing, and maintenance of pipelines, scripts, and high-performance sequence/signature databases for inclusion and exclusion analysis.
- Maintain source code and pipeline documentation in the managed CDC GitLab or other authorized repository; publish only when approved by CDC.
- Generate concise analysis summaries that identify method, input data, quality indicators, key results, limitations, and recommended follow-up.
- Advise on data retention, storage, and management strategies when requested, while deferring final data governance decisions to CDC.
EHA will coordinate bioinformatics outputs with epidemiology and laboratory staff through a weekly analytic queue review, or a more frequent cadence during outbreak response. The review will identify datasets received, datasets pending QA/QC, analyses completed, issues requiring CDC direction, and outputs ready for surveillance reports, outbreak briefings, manuscripts, or partner communication.
QUALIFICATIONS: a. Bachelors degree or higher
b. 3-5 years of experience working in bio-informatics
c. Knowledge of genomics and laboratory testing
d. Knowledge of CDC policy, quality and regulatory training
e. Ability to communicate effectively
f. Ability to independently resolve conflicts
g. Working knowledge of CDC applications
