Blue Origin is pioneering the future of space-based communications with TeraWave, a revolutionary satellite communications network designed to deliver symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps anywhere on Earth. This multi-orbit constellation will consist of optically interconnected satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO), providing enterprise-grade connectivity for critical operations worldwide.
As part of the TeraWave Spacecraft Bus Electrical Power Subsystem team, you will be responsible for developing and qualifying avionic hardware products, specifically related to Li-Ion batteries in support of the TeraWave mission. You will own the battery electrical integration for TeraWave, including battery-to-Power Management and Distribution (PMAD) interfaces, charging/discharging architecture, protection features, telemetry, fault management inputs, test support, and coordination with Blue Batteries. Support battery requirements, ICDs, verification planning, and vehicle-level integration across production, lab, EGSE, and mission operations use cases. You will have responsibility for hardware development and successful qualification per company and industry standards. You will support system integration with other multi-functional teams, as well as component, module, and subsystem level validation as well as introducing the design to volume production.
Special Mentions:Travel: About 20% travel is expected between Grandview, MO and the Seattle, WA area.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Manage and maintain a full system design and its associated documentation (CAD, drawings, ICDs, BOMs, etc.)
- Provide technical support during flight build, test, and delivery to other areas of the technical execution team
- Work closely with the program and manufacturing team through build, test, and delivery of flight hardware.
- Support the development of the Automated Test Equipment and transition of the product from development to production release.
- Support the development of the hardware requirements, test plans and procedures in compliance with company and industry standards.
- Support the successful qualification of the hardware.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for integration into the vehicle and assist in troubleshooting and vehicle integration.
Minimum Qualifications:- Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of direct experience in battery development, 3+ year in space applications desired
- Direct experience with Battery Design, Test, and Manufacturing.
- Familiarity with lithium-ion batteries and battery test methods.
- Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the mechanical assembly product lifecycle
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs
- Highly organized team player with excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to travel to and work at remote sites supporting test integration, commissioning, and training
- Experience with high-voltage (>50V) spacecraft design
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:- Master's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or related field
- Experience in development of spacecraft, satellite systems or high-performance aircraft systems
- Experience across multiple portions of the product life cycle
- Experience with safety-critical systems development (automotive, aerospace, medical, etc.)
Base Pay Range for:
WA applicants is $156,802.00 - $219,522.45
