Full Job Description
Directs the provision of pharmaceutical care through strategic planning and clinical oversight. The AVP will be expected to plan, evaluate, develop, and implement processes to improve pharmacy-related care while maintaining budgetary restrictions throughout WVUH, MBR Cancer Center, Chestnut Ridge Hospital, WVU Medicine Children's, Wheeling Hospital, Harrison Hospital, Barnesville Hospital and United Hospital Center.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Must possess a current license as required by the state board where services will be provided or be license eligible. Licensure must be completed within 100 days of hire.
WV: Valid Pharmacist license through the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy
NOTE:
* While waiting on licensure, employee may not practice pharmacy under West Virginia law and may not be allowed within the licensed pharmacy area without direct and guided supervision of a licensed pharmacist
* Employee may not function as a Pharmacist-in-Charge or perform any function of a practicing pharmacist.
* Incumbents will refrain from engaging in any responsibilities that necessitate a pharmacist's license until they have obtained full licensure.
EXPERIENCE:
1.Candidates should have experience in at least one of the following areas:
Completion of a PGY-2 health-system pharmacy administration residency program AND six (6) years of administrative experience
Completion of a non-health-system pharmacy administration PGY-2 residency program AND eight (8) years of administrative experience
Seven (7) years inpatient and/or health-system pharmacy administrative experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Master of Business Administration, Master of Health Administration, Master of Science in Health System Pharmacy Administration, or Master in Public Health.
2. Certified through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS)
EXPERIENCE:
1. ASHP Accredited Pharmacy Residency training, preferably in health system administration.
2. Prior experience in a large, progressive, academic healthcare setting

1. Promotes, through a close working relationship with the pharmacy directors, a climate to promote the safe, effective, rational and cost effective use of medications at WVUH and clinics/practices.
2. Directs comprehensive drug distribution systems.
3. Directs clinical pharmacy services.
4. Serves as the primary contact in terms of interdepartmental communication. Includes membership Leadership Forum.
5. Develops goals and plans for implementation for future directions of the Department.
6. Promotes the professional development of staff members.
7. Encourages the use of Total Quality Management techniques as a means of improving the products of the Department.
8. Utilizes key financial and productivity tools to manage and allocate resources of the Department.
9. Identifies, and works to rectify, budget variances.
10. Promotes programs which stress cost-effectiveness while maintaining quality.
11. Assist with pharmacy regulatory guidance and compliance.
12. Directs operational deployment of automation.
