This position is an existing vacancy.

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance this position provides oversight and leadership to the company's financial controls including ICFR (Internal Control over Financial Reporting) process, operational accounting and reinsurance reporting.

The role also maintains and continues to develop the company's financial control framework through a robust ICFR process to ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting and continues to adhere to regulatory standards to provide highest assurance to stakeholders. Provides operational accounting and reinsurance accounting technical support to various internal business areas as well as outsourcing partners.

As the Assistant Vice-President Accounting and Financial Controls, you will...

  • Lead and enhance the ICFR program including scoping, risk assessment, key control framework, and remediation oversight
  • Coordinate execution of the ICFR program
  • Manage internal and external audits to coordinate requirements and priorities
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to provide deliver a robust control environment
  • Oversee operational accounting and provide finance and accounting leadership to business owners
  • Oversee reinsurance reporting and accounting coordination
  • Oversee monthly and quarterly deliverables
  • Oversee Account Reconciliation Process and Reporting
  • Oversee projects and testing related to operational accounting
  • Monitor developments in the accounting standards and provide leadership as needed to review the impact and implement as required
  • Manage quarter-end deliverables from various areas including Finance, Actuarial, Corporate Tax, and Risk Management
  • Manage quarter-end meetings with senior management
  • Manage CFO IFRS17 deliverables to ensure processes and deliverables are on track
  • Manage resources and staff development including coaching, mentoring and performance assessment
  • Possess strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team to make the most of their abilities and recognize their full potential


What we are looking for...

  • Professional accounting designation recognized in Canada (CPA)
  • University degree in business or accounting
  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of business experience, with not less than 5 years in a leadership role overseeing professional staff
  • 5 years life insurance company accounting and financial control experience is required
  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple and changing priorities
  • Strong analytical, decision-making and negotiation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, focusing on relevant information and being able to explain complex concepts in easily understandable terms to a wide range of audiences
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing and engaging across all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a high-performing team


What we pay...

S08 Pay Range: $125,000 to $175,000
