As an Equipment Engineer II for Automation Systems, you will be responsible for the design, integration, and optimization of advanced robotic cells core to our high-volume production lines. You will develop complex movement logic, design custom End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT), and integrate vision systems for high-speed inspection and guidance. Working from Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV, you will collaborate with electrical and process teams to simulate and debug automated workflows before deployment. Your work ensures the precision and uptime of the equipment required to manufacture the iron-air batteries that maintain global grid stability and reliability.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!

What you'll do:

  • Develop and optimize movement logic for gantries, conveyors, and high-speed pick-and-place systems to maximize manufacturing throughput.
  • Partner with the E&I lead to ensure seamless handshakes and communication protocols between robot controllers and the primary PLC.
  • Program and simulate automation workflows using digital twin tools to identify and resolve bottlenecks before equipment reaches the factory floor.
  • Validate automated systems against rigorous safety standards and performance metrics to ensure 24/7 operational stability.
  • Scale automated manufacturing processes by providing technical expertise during the installation and commissioning of new production lines.

What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or an equivalent technical field.
  • 1-4 years of professional experience in manufacturing equipment design, commissioning, or automation.
  • Proficiency in Fanuc ROBOGUIDE or similar simulation software for robotic path planning and cycle time analysis.
  • Practical experience with vision system integration (e.g., Cognex, Keyence) for part inspection or robotic guidance.
  • Familiarity with industrial safety standards for collaborative and industrial robot cells (ISO 10218).
  • Experience designing electrical and pneumatic control systems for high-speed, precision motion applications.

Where you'll work:

This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV-an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.
