SUMMARY OF PURPOSE/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Incumbent executes the automation engineering activities for strategic capital projects within the Toronto Technical Services Organization. This position is required to manage development, concept, design, commissioning, qualification and the maintenance of automation systems. This position will be responsible for interfacing with different stream (Process, ITS, Production, Maintenance, Quality...) to ensure the correct installation of the systems while adhering to established regulatory compliance requirements. The incumbent is also responsible for developing appropriate solutions to satisfy the needs of internal customers in accordance with company guidelines and procedures, and within budget and schedule commitments. The incumbent is accountable for acting and involved in producing designs and then implementing the designs (commissioning and qualification post installation) according to SPL best practices.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Support the configuration, administration and maintenance activities of the site's manufacturing computer and automation systems, including process control systems, building automation systems, configuration, and interfaces.
  • Lead projects in the design, development, and qualification of automated processes, equipment, and systems.
  • Directly support the manufacturing assistance team with troubleshooting and issue resolution with respect to computer and automation systems.
  • Lead small cross functional teams in support of project requirements and initiatives.
  • Interpreting automation requirements throughout project design and implementation phases
  • Perform appropriate reviews with stakeholders and responsible for design that meets project budget and schedule.
  • Responsible for leading and working with various trades to complete installation and commissioning activities for automation systems to ensure they are designed and installed per design requirements.
  • Support mechanical completion and start-up. Participate FAT, SAT and Critical Test plan execution.
  • Review the C&Q test plans for the automation and support the commissioning and qualification tasks.

CONTEXT OF THE JOB/MAJOR CHALLENGES:
  • Ability to work in a collaborative shared space (Obeya) in a large and complex project environment where quick critical thinking and decision making is required
  • Technical aptitude/understanding across a broad number of subjects including vaccine processes and equipment, HVAC systems, building and equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to lead, engage and work with a spectrum of roles within the organization. This includes unionized trades, salaried managers, technical services support functions, quality, production and supporting functions.


About You

  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Science, Information technology or Computer Science or equivalent job certificate / education.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years, direct of experience in applied automation design engineering and project experience are required. Additional experience in construction/installation, equipment start-up, qualification and/or validation.
    • Experience with one of the following platforms: Allen Bradley PLC, Siemens PLC, DeltaV, Instrumentation and control panel hardware as required by the job.
    • Experience with FactoryTalk AssetCentre preferred
    • Working knowledge of unit operations typically used in biotech and vaccine manufacturing such as bulk manufacturing, downstream operations, formulation, steaming (SIP) and cleaning (CIP)
    • Must understand the relationship between Good Manufacturing Practices, industry standards and their application to the manufacturing process.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external team members is essential
    • Strong analytical skills (engineering analysis)
    • Experience with computer systems validation practices (GAMP).
    • Experience authoring and reviewing standard operating procedures, on-the-job-trainings, and other controlled documents.

76,200.00 - 121,100.00 (Includes target bonus)
