Job Description

MISSION:

As an Automation Engineer you will be part of a dynamic technical team driving manufacturing efficiency and productivity in a plant environment. You will apply applicable technical knowledge from cumulative training and hands on experience to support existing automated systems and assist with the development of new and innovative solutions to meet plant metrics in a timely and cost-effective manner.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Understand automation safety requirements and be responsible for keeping all systems in a safe working order. If an issue arises, you will shut down the system and work with support staff to resolve the issue.
  • Provide technical oversight and leadership to Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, System Integrators, and Equipment Manufactures.
  • Coordinate system support and preventative maintenance activities with Technicians, Engineers, Maintenance, System Integrators, Equipment Manufacturers, and Operations personnel.
  • Use knowledge of automation and plant processes to troubleshoot and resolve basic equipment and process errors. Act as a liaison with System Integrators and Equipment Manufacturers on specific issues. Communicate fault recovery procedure to Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams.
  • Develop solutions to problems by applying a wide variety of existing techniques, processes, and procedures. Work independently with input and periodic review by peers and manager.
  • Plan, submit, schedule, and complete small to medium sized Continuous Improvement Projects and Feasibility Studies (<$100K). Track timeline, budget, and resources to milestone plan.
  • Gather, record, analyze, and summarize data in various formats. Prepare technical reports of results. Track performance of existing systems and evaluate existing processes to support new automation initiatives.
  • Revise system and process documentation utilizing existing documentation templates and standards.
  • Support Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams with training as needed.
  • Ability to work modified schedules to support development, installation, and system support schedules.
  • Ability to support 24/7 plant operation. This may include occasional contact during off-shift hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Requires a BS degree in engineering with 5-8 years relevant experience, or a MS degree in engineering with 3-4 years of relevant experience OR equivalent experience
  • Broad knowledge of mechanical, industrial, materials science engineering along with investment casting technology.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in engineering principles and disciplines; employed manufacturing processes; statistical analysis (data correlation); technical report and article preparation; preparing specifications; ability to define, plan, and complete major projects; ability to supervise/direct activities of professionals with diverse expertise.
  • Experience using Computer Aided Design, Statistical programs, Excel, Solidview, Unigraphics or Catia skills is preferred.
  • Experience in operation and basic troubleshooting of an automated system with one of the following components: Robotics (Fanuc, ABB), Controls (Allen Bradley, Siemens), and/or SCADA (Ignition, Wonderware)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Technical writing experience preferred.
  • Ability to apply and adapt a wide variety of technical procedures under general directions and to complete work independently.
  • TATS certified or ability to become certified.
  • Basic knowledge of lean manufacturing principals.
  • Working knowledge of the following software packages: MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
