Position-Specific Details:
Position Requirements: Applicants must have a license to practice law in Louisiana, be in good standing with the LSBA, and be a resident of Louisiana.

Location: This position may be domiciled in DAL's Baton Rouge office. Outside law practice is restricted.

Appointment Type: This posting may be used to fill multiple vacancies within the agency. The position(s) may be filled as probational and temporary job appointments.

Career Progression: The position(s) may be filled as an Attorney 3 or Attorney 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected candidates. **Statutory Requirements: Due to statutory requirements, applicants who possess at least five years or more of experience practicing law will be preferred.
  • Administrative Law Judges must have been engaged in the actual practice of law for at least five years prior to their appointment at DAL (La. R.S.49:994).
  • Administrative Law Judges at DAL are placed in a pool and pulled at random to be selected to serve on the Ethics Adjudicatory Board. To serve on this board, the attorney must have two years of experience as an Administrative Law Judge with the Division of Administrative Law and not less than ten years in the practice of law (La. R.S.42:1141.2).

Compensation: The maximum amount listed for the salary range is the amount a person can make throughout their career in the position and not the maximum amount we are allowed to pay at the time of hire.

Travel: Travel may be required within the state, with occasional overnight stays.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • DAL seeks candidates with excellent written and oral communication skills. Administrative Law Judges/Attorney 3/Attorney 4 employees are responsible for conducting professional administrative proceedings and writing clear decisions that are easy for parties to understand.
  • Experience with administrative hearings, trial practice, or working for a court is preferred. DAL seeks organized individuals who are able to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage a significant caseload. Candidates should be proficient in operating basic computer programs, such as Microsoft Word, and be capable of learning to effectively utilize DAL's computerized case management system and telephonic and video conferencing technologies.
