Overview

The Atlassian Platform Engineer will support enterprise-levelJiraandConfluenceadministration for ahigh-visibility national security mission. This is a hands-on engineering and operations role that is critical tomodernizing and scaling collaboration platforms across multi-enclave, high-security environments.

This role will partner closely with mission stakeholders, security, IT, and operations teams to deliverresilient, secure, and high-performing Atlassian solutionsthat enable federalpublic safety and national securityobjectives. This role requires an Atlassian expert who is equally comfortable administering platforms, solving complex problems, and collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Administer and scaleJira, Confluence, Jira Service Management (JSM), and Crowdto support daily enterprise operations across multiple enclaves.
  • Design, configure, and optimizeworkflows, fields, screens, schemes, dashboards, reports, templates, and permission modelsto support mission-specific and enterprise-wide use cases.
  • Manage and governAtlassian Marketplace apps, including installation, configuration, upgrades, license management, troubleshooting, and performance validation.
  • Overseeaccess and identity managementacross Atlassian platforms, including configuration ofCrowd, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), and SSO/SAML integrationsin alignment with security and identity policies.
  • Own day-to-dayplatform operations, including upgrades, patches, configuration changes, deployments, backups, log management, and monitoring.
  • Implement and tunemonitoring, alerting, and loggingto proactively identify and resolve performance, stability, and capacity issues.
  • Partner with infrastructure and security teams to validatehigh availability, disaster recovery, andbackup/restorestrategies for Atlassian environments.
  • Triage and resolve support tickets, ranging from standard access requests to complex configuration and workflow changes.
  • Providetier 2/3 supportfor Jira, Confluence, JSM, and Crowd-related incidents and service requests.
  • Develop and maintainknowledge articles, how-to guides, and training materialsthat enable self-service and reduce ticket volume.
  • Engage directly with mission teams to understand requirements and translate them into scalable, supportable tool configurations.
  • Support federal compliance needs, includingFISMA/ATO-related documentation, audit support, and configuration baselinesin accordance with security and governance requirements.
  • Ensure Atlassian configurations, integrations, and plugins adhere tosecurity controls, least privilege, data protection, and logging requirements.
  • Contribute to and enforcestandards, patterns, guardrails, and best practicesfor Atlassian usage across the enterprise.
  • Collaborate withAgile, DevSecOps, and mission delivery teamsto configure Atlassian tools that align withAgile/SAFe frameworks, ceremonies, and reporting structures.
  • Identify opportunities to enhanceautomation, workflow efficiency, and user experienceacross Jira, Confluence, and JSM.
  • Participate in roadmap planning for Atlassian platforms, includingfeature evaluation, capacity planning, and migration or modernization initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 yearsof experience supportingenterprise IT platforms or collaboration ecosystems
  • Hands-on experience administeringenterprise Jira, Confluence, and Crowd, with strong emphasis on:
    • Workflow and scheme design
    • Automation rules and configuration
    • Plugin/app installation, configuration, and lifecycle management
  • Familiarity with:
    • Linux administration(e.g., RHEL, CentOS, or equivalent)
    • Relational databasessuch as PostgreSQL and MySQL
    • FISMA / ATO complianceprocesses and associated documentation
  • Strongwritten and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders and collaborate across technical, mission, and leadership teams.
  • Proven ability to operate infast-paced, dynamic environments, manage multiple priorities, and deliver under evolving mission needs.
  • Familiarity withAgile and/or SAFedelivery methodologies, including the ability to configure Jira and related tools to supportbacklogs, sprints, PI planning, and standard ceremonies.
  • Ability and willingness to workonsite in Washington, DC, 5 days per week.
  • Education/Experience:
    • Bachelor92s degree inInformation Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
    • 5+ yearsof relevant professional experience
  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience integratingAI-enabled capabilitiesinto collaboration platforms, such as:
    • Intelligent ticket classification and routing
    • Smart suggestions or AI-driven knowledge search
    • Automation leveraging machine learning insights
  • Experience supporting or obtainingCI Polygraph(willingness to undergo CI poly).
  • Exposure to or experience with:
    • Atlassian Data Centerdeployments in secure or on-premise environments
    • Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, or DevSecOps toolchains that integrate with Jira or Confluence
    • Scripting for automation (e.g., Python, Bash, Groovy) or use of Atlassian REST APIs for integrations and bulk operations
