Department Overview

TD Auto Finance (TDAF) is a dynamic division within TD. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing business with Automotive Banking Centres located in Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal. Led by regional Market Leaders, our team of commercial bankers is focused on providing bespoke financing and cash management solutions to our clients within the automotive dealership industry in Canada.

The TDAF Commercial team is focused on lending to auto dealers across the country, providing comprehensive solutions to meet their banking needs. Credit exposure across the portfolio includes real estate and acquisition financing, operating credit, floor plan financing, lease lines and equipment finance. Transactions can range significantly in size and complexity from ~$15mm for small, single location dealers to +$500mm for large dealer groups.

TDAF's goal is to become Canada’s #1 auto lender. We are over 900 people strong including an external sales team located coast to coast, as well as teams in credit adjudication, funding, inside sales, loan administration, customer service, collections and recovery, and our federated functions of risk management, technology solutions, finance & human resources. 

Role Overview

The Associate, Strategic Accounts role is an entry point into TDAF Strategic Accounts for individuals with prior Commercial or Corporate Banking experience. The Associate provides credit underwriting, transaction execution and portfolio management support across the unit. This broad exposure is intended to build the technical credit, industry and execution capabilities required for progression to the Associate Director role.

Working under the guidance of Associate Directors, Director of Credit Execution, and Credit leadership, the Associate contributes to high-quality credit decisions, timely delivery and consistent client experience while operating within established policy, controls and approval authorities.

Key Accountabilities
  • Provide credit underwriting support across Strategic Accounts portfolios, including new transactions, amendments, renewals and annual reviews.
  • Analyze borrower and guarantor financial performance, cash flow, leverage, liquidity, debt service capacity, collateral coverage and key industry risks.
  • Assist in preparing clear, well-supported credit submissions that identify transaction rationale, structure, risks, mitigants, policy considerations and recommended terms.
  • Contribute to the structuring of competitive financing packages while maintaining a balanced view of risk, return, credit quality and client needs.
  • Complete financial spreading, trend analysis, sensitivity analysis and financial modelling appropriate to the complexity of the account and transaction.
  • Support due diligence and closing activities by coordinating information requirements, conditions precedent, documentation items and internal approvals with deal team members.
  • Assist with ongoing portfolio monitoring and control processes, including covenant tracking, annual review and expiry management, exception follow-up, internal reporting and maintenance of complete credit files.
  • Identify emerging credit issues and escalate material findings promptly to the Associate Director, Director and/or Credit leadership, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Relationship Management, Credit, Operations, Risk, Legal and other partners to support coordinated and timely transaction execution.
  • Deliver reliable, responsive service to internal and external stakeholders and contribute to continuous improvement of the client and colleague experience.
  • Maintain current knowledge of automotive retail trends, dealership financial drivers, TDAF products, credit policies, systems and related tools.
  • Participate as an engaged member of the team, contribute to knowledge sharing and support ad hoc initiatives as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting or another relevant quantitative discipline, or an equivalent work experience.
  • Previous experience in Commercial or Corporate Banking, credit underwriting, risk management or a related field; exposure to larger or more complex transactions is preferred.
  • Solid foundation in credit analysis, financial statement analysis and problem solving, with the ability to develop well-reasoned conclusions.
  • Financial modelling skills and proficiency with spreadsheet and presentation tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to organize complex information into clear credit narratives.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative deal team, while seeking guidance and escalating issues appropriately.
  • Ability to engage professionally with internal and external stakeholders, including Relationship Management, Credit, Risk, Operations, Legal and clients.
  • Curiosity, sound judgment, accountability and a commitment to continuous learning and high-quality execution.
  • Automotive dealership finance or industry experience is an asset.
