Role Summary:

As an Associate, you will be responsible for conducting fundamental investment research, assisting in building recommendations, implementing fundamental investments strategies, and monitoring and managing portfolio investments. You may also support the identification, scoping, and implementation of value creation opportunities by conducting research, analysis, and preparing presentations.

CPP Investments' Sustainable Energies Group (SEG) combines the organization's expertise in renewables and conventional energy to position CPP Investments as the leading global energy investor. SEG has approximately $36 billion in assets, making it highly competitive and flexible in the large and dynamic global energy sector.

SEG takes advantage of growing market opportunities as the energy sector evolves and global power demand grows, especially for low-carbon energy alternatives. The group holds a diversified portfolio primarily comprised of long-term tangible assets, including renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and hydro, as well as conventional power, upstream oil & gas and energy midstream.

Accountabilities & Qualifications:

  • Support the execution of new investments opportunities with focus in North America
  • Support asset management activities for existing investments, building and leveraging the competencies of the Sustainable Energies Group team
  • Compile industry, market and asset level data and financial information to support research
  • Build and leverage relationships with industry participants and management teams
  • Perform fundamental research and present research ideas to broader group
  • Perform due diligence on opportunities, including financial, company and sector diligence, to determine investment merits and risks
  • Develop company financial models and perform valuation analyses; apply statistical analysis to support investment decisions
  • Participate in evaluation, including sharing views on overall investment attractiveness based on findings from diligence work
  • Prepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations in collaboration with the team, including industry overviews, written investment rationales and due diligence reviews
  • Participate in presentation of investment recommendations to the Investment Committee and Board as required


Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in relevant field
  • An advanced degree or certification (CFA) is an asset
  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience
  • Strong research, analytical, financial modeling, valuation, problem solving skills and ability to think creatively
  • Experience working in deal environments including supporting acquisitions, diligence and/or asset management activities
  • Advanced computer/technical skills - MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills


The salary range for this position is: USD $145,000 - USD $212,000 US state/city legislation requires CPP investments to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The base salary range shown here is a reasonable expectation for the posted role and is part of a competitive total rewards package which includes comprehensive benefits, a performance-based incentive plan, a 401 (k)
