Associate - Investment Banking - Public Finance

Location: Chicago

Full/Part-Time: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $110,000 - $160,000

Position Summary:

The objective of this position is to support senior bankers on all aspects of business development, deal acquisition and train/manage analysts and interns. Associates assist in revenue generation by providing client coverage, relationship management, deal management and execution, creating client presentations, managing the request for proposals (RFPs) process and assist in completing regulatory and compliance duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work with team to plan, analyze and develop complex financial debt and rating agency strategies for clients, including state and local governments, healthcare organizations, higher education and cultural institutions, transportation and housing entities
  • Develop innovative financing structures for public finance clients
  • For senior managed deals, execute transactions (analyzing and structuring debt, coordinating financing team members, due diligence activities, analyzing legal documentation)
  • Restructure transactions to reduce client debt costs
  • Perform quantitative analysis for new money and refundings using variable and fixed rate debt, current interest bonds, capital appreciation bonds and general obligation and revenue credits
  • Interact with financial advisors, law firms and credit rating agencies
  • Prepare proposals and make presentations to prospective clients
  • Oversee creation of investor presentations and coordination of investor tours
  • Mentor and train interns and analysts

Qualifications:
  • Securities Industry Essentials (SIE), Municipal Securities Representative (Series 52), and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law (Series 63) are required for this role.
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college/university or equivalent combination of education and
  • Bachelor's degree and/or coursework in Economics, Finance, Business, Mathematics, Engineering or any science is preferred
  • Previous work experience within the Municipal investment banking industry in Capital Markets or Public Finance is preferred
