What You'll Be Doing

The Capital Markets arm of CIBC provides corporate, government and institutional clients with innovative solutions to help them raise capital and grow and invest actively throughout North America and key financial centres around the world. To deliver on its vision to be our clients' preferred capital markets banking partner across multiple products and services, both in Canada and where our core competencies can be exported. The Capital Markets mission is to bring Canadian Capital Markets products to Canada and the rest of the world and also bring the world to Canada.

The expected annualized base salary for this role is $100,000.

The base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate's skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development, enabling progression within the salary range as team members advance in their roles.

In addition to base pay, compensation for this role includes participation in an annual discretionary incentive or bonus program.

How You'll Succeed

Research - As Research Associate the incumbent will work closely with Research Analysts covering Metals & Mining sector. The Associate will develop a depth of knowledge in financial analysis, covered industries and the capital markets. In the role, they will gain valuable experience in gathering information, researching companies and industries leveraging primary, secondary and alternative sources, and recognizing and analyzing industry trends. The associate will also be active writing reports, as well as developing and maintaining financial models and databases and will assist in writing thematic reports. The successful candidate will have excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, will have a strong attention to detail, and will be very excel-proficient and financial-statement-literate.

Client Focus - In cooperation with the Research Analysts they will participate in regular calls with public companies to get direct data from the senior management teams, as well as ad hoc calls, meetings and industry events. The position also provides the opportunity to liaise with our Sales, Trading, Investment Banking colleagues and clients as required.

Who You Are
  • You have attained relevant education. Preference is given to candidates who possess an accounting designation CA or CPA or an mining engineering designation combined with a CFA or MBA will be considered. Please include a writing sample along with your cover letter, resume and transcripts (if recent graduate).
  • You can demonstrate relevant work experience. Experience the Accounting/Finance and/or Mining industry is preferred. Previous Capital markets experience is preferred, but not required.
  • You are technically savvy. Excellent knowledge of PC applications (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) are expected. We are also seeking candidates with programming, automation, and AI skills.
  • You love to collaborate. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with internal and external clients.
  • You know that details matter. Excellent analytical and quantitative skills. Ability to complete and explain detailed financial and statistical analysis. Strong multi-tasking and time management skills. Ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented environment. Demonstrated interest in the capital markets industry through school courses, clubs and/or related work experience
