Job DescriptionJob Summary:The Associate Director provides operational leadership and day-to-day management for the UC Health Data Warehouse (UCHDW), supporting the Director in executing strategies for clinical and research data architecture, management, harmonization, governance, and visualization. This role oversees a team of data professionals delivering Business Intelligence and Analytics (BIA) services and plays a key role in cross-system initiatives including evidence-based medicine, clinical practice improvement, quality reporting, and translational research. The Associate Director partners with stakeholders across the Health enterprise to ensure the UCHDW meets evolving operational, regulatory, and research needs. UCHDW is the major asset of the Center for Data-driven Insights and Innovation, a division of UC Health within the UC Office of the President.
The Associate Director must exercise the utmost discretion in managing sensitive information, including patient records, employee data, financial information, and strategic plans. This role requires strict adherence to all organizational policies and applicable laws governing data protection and privacy, including secure handling of physical and digital records and proper use of IT systems to prevent unauthorized disclosure.

Manages bioinformatics program development, cost estimates, budgets, customer service, and marketing. Prepares and presents project proposals to management and user departments.

Manages evaluation, design, and implementation of informatics methods and systems in support of new and ongoing programming activity in the areas of data collection, computational pipelines, storage and access, statistical methods, evaluation, data visualization, and interactive web displays.
Implement and maintain standards and best practices for data governance across the UCHDW
Oversee data modeling, ETL processes, metadata management, and data quality initiatives
- Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of data integration, transformation, and visualization solutions

Collaborate with clinical, research, financial, and administrative stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions
Coordinate proofs of concept and pilot projects for new data sources and use cases (e.g., omics, imaging, financial data)
Serve as a technical liaison between the UCHDW team and cross-system governance groups
Support strategic planning and analysis for incorporating new data domains into the UCHDW
Represent CDI2 as appropriate in meetings with UC Health and medical center leadership, CDI2 Oversight Board, and other stakeholder groups

QualificationsRequired:- Master's degree in biomedical informatics, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related field
- Minimum 15 years of experience in healthcare data warehousing, business intelligence, or analytics, including 10 years in a supervisory or lead role
- Experience with modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, cloud-based environments)
- Experience implementing OMOP common data model to support clinical operations
- Experience supporting clinical and translational research data needs
- Understanding of regulatory and ethical requirements for clinical data reuse (HIPAA, IRB)
- Strong knowledge of data warehouse architecture, ETL development, data modeling, and metadata management
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, ICD, CPT) and semantic harmonization
- Broad knowledge of bioinformatics programming design, modification and implementation, bioinformatics methods, data security, operating systems, relational databases, and data structures in an open-source environment
- Proven critical thinking, persuasion / negotiation, conflict resolution, mentoring and staff development, leadership / management, problem solving, human resources policies and procedures relating to management responsibilities.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, quantitative and analytical abilities, and object-oriented computing concepts.
