What is the opportunity?

Product Controllers are the front-line finance function for Capital Market businesses. We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our Product Control team, where you will manage and lead the team responsible for daily financial Profit and Loss (P&L) reporting, P&L decomposition, as well as accuracy of General Ledger for the Flow Rates Europe trading desk.

** Please note: while this role is based in Toronto, it involves covering a UK-based desk working with a 7am start time **

What you will do?
  • Oversee daily team reporting and production of desk P&L explained by a risk-based decomposition including the provision of commentaries.
  • Manage and mentor a team of co-op students, analysts, senior analysts and managers.
  • To provide an effective link between Front Office (FO), & Financial Control, requiring detailed product knowledge, so that any disagreements in daily P+L are resolved on a timely basis & ultimate P+L agreement with FO is achieved, evidenced & logged.
  • To ensure integrity of the bank's books & records via reconciliation and attestation.
  • To assist with higher level month end reporting tasks; to include creation and review of adjustments, ledger reconciliations and attestation and the production of adequate audit trail.
  • To provide key leadership and input into designing, testing and delivering the major infrastructural changes for this business. Involvement in key change management projects to deliver improvements to our daily processes.
  • Ensuring adequate documentation exists and is up-to-date to support existing processes, enabling effective X-training and cover.
  • Reporting of consolidated results and escalation to senior stakeholders
  • To assess areas of procedural and control weakness with a view to implement solutions through a combination of re-design, procedural improvement and technology advancements.
  • Ensure adherence to and substantiation of Regulatory and Audit requirements within Capital Markets, while maintaining full compliance with Standing Orders

Must Have:
  • 4+ relevant Product Control or finance experience gained within a banking/trading environment
  • Degree in accounting, finance, business, or equivalent
  • Strong leadership, analytical, problem solving, communication and people management skills
  • Project Management experience and strong Change Management mindset
  • Accounting knowledge for on and off-balance sheet products a must
  • Proficient in Excel, Access and Word
  • Ability to work in a demanding environment with tight deadlines
  • Ability to solve and fix problems within a short period of time
  • Advance understanding of procedures and operational controls as they relate to trading systems and workflows


Nice-to-have:
  • CPA, CFA, MBA or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with Trade booking systems such as Murex
  • Interest Rate Derivatives and Securities product knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of "Greeks" based decomposition
  • Strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal skills to work across functions and businesses
