Job DescriptionThe purpose of this position serves as a subject matter expert and strategic partner, bridging business needs and data solutions by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting complex information to help Advancement leaders make informed decisions and improve organizational effectiveness. This role leads analytics and reporting projects from requirements gathering through implementation, works collaboratively with Advancement and technology partners to develop scalable solutions, and provides consultation and training to promote effective use of data across the Division. The position exercises independent judgment in evaluating analytical findings, identifying trends and opportunities, recommending improvements, and determining appropriate analytical and reporting approaches to address Advancement business needs.
ResponsibilitiesData Collection and Management 15%
- Collect, clean, validate, and maintain data from multiple sources to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and usability.
- Develop and maintain data structures, reporting environments, and analytical solutions that support Advancement operations and decision-making.
- Establish and maintain data quality practices and documentation to promote consistent and reliable reporting.
- Ensure data management practices align with university policies and applicable privacy and security requirements.
- Monitor developments and best practices in data analytics and apply relevant approaches to strengthen Advancement operations.
Data Analysis, Reporting, and Visualization 25%
- Analyze complex data to identify trends, patterns, opportunities, and operational insights that inform fundraising, stewardship, and Advancement strategies.
- Develop and manage dashboards, reports, and data visualizations tailored to the needs of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Apply appropriate statistical and analytical methods to evaluate information and develop actionable recommendations.
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear, concise insights and recommendations for Advancement leaders and stakeholders.
- Evaluate reporting and analytical requirements and determine appropriate methodologies, tools, and approaches to address business needs.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on data interpretation, reporting, visualization, and analytical practices within Advancement.
Business Process and Operational Support 15%
- Lead consultations with Advancement units to identify reporting, operational, and analytical needs and translate business requirements into effective data solutions.
- Evaluate existing business processes and use data-driven analysis to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability.
- Recommend and develop process improvements and reporting solutions that strengthen operational performance and decision-making.
- Lead analytical components of Advancement Operations initiatives, including analysis, documentation, requirements gathering, and process improvement.
- Exercise independent judgment in assessing business needs, evaluating alternatives, and recommending solutions that support organizational objectives.
Fundraising and Campaign Analytics 15%
- Provide analytical insights and recommendations to support fundraising campaigns, stewardship strategies, and strategic Advancement initiatives.
- Monitor campaign performance and key metrics against established goals and identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Analyze donor engagement, fundraising trends, and operational effectiveness to support leadership decision-making.
- Develop and maintain analytical measures and reporting approaches that help Advancement leaders evaluate progress and outcomes.
- Translate campaign and donor data into actionable insights that can inform planning, resource allocation, and engagement strategies.
Collaboration and Project Management 15%
- Lead multiple reporting, analytics, and process improvement projects simultaneously, establishing priorities, managing timelines, and delivering outcomes.
- Serve as a strategic partner to Advancement units by translating business needs into practical analytical and reporting solutions.
- Collaborate with IT, technology partners, and other university stakeholders to support system integrations, data solutions, and reporting capabilities.
- Coordinate project requirements, communicate progress and recommendations, and facilitate implementation with relevant stakeholders.
- Build effective working relationships across Advancement and the broader university to promote consistent and effective use of data.
- Identify and proactively address project risks, dependencies, and competing priorities to ensure successful project outcomes.
Training, Support, and User Adoption 15%
- Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted consultant to Advancement leaders and staff regarding data interpretation, reporting, dashboards, and analytical tools.
- Develop and deliver training to promote effective use of dashboards, reports, and analytical resources.
- Translate technical concepts and analytical findings into practical information that can be understood and applied by non-technical audiences.
- Provide ongoing consultation and guidance to help users interpret data appropriately and apply insights to business decisions.
- Promote a culture of data-informed decision-making by increasing awareness, understanding, and effective adoption of analytical resources.
- Identify opportunities to improve user adoption and the overall effectiveness of reporting and analytics solutions.
QualificationsRequired Education and ExperienceThe candidate who fills the Associate Director of Operations Analytics position is required to have:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience (2 years with a masters) in data analytics, business intelligence, reporting, or a related field.
- Experience with data management, analysis, reporting, and dashboard development.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required due to travel responsibilities of the position. UTFI reserves the right to consider all appropriate circumstances. In general, any significant driving offense less than 12 months old will eliminate the application from consideration for the position.
Note - Candidates holding a graduate degree must have at least 2 years of experience.
Preferred Education and ExperienceIn addition to meeting the required qualifications, the preferred candidate will have:
- Master's Degree with experience in higher education advancement, fundraising, nonprofit organizations, or constituent engagement.
- Experience with CRM systems such as Ellucian Advance, Blackbaud CRM, Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, or similar platforms.
- Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into reporting solutions.
- Experience presenting findings and recommendations to leadership audiences.
