What is the opportunity?

The Group Annuity Pricing team is seeking an accomplished leader to drive strategic excellence and innovation across the Canadian group annuity pricing function. In this role, you will help shape pricing strategy, develop next-generation tools and processes that enhance business performance, and guide a collaborative approach to complex transactions with both our internal and external stakeholders. You will combine technical expertise with proven leadership capabilities to inspire teams, drive continuous improvement, and deliver measurable business impact. People Leadership
  • Train, peer review, and mentor actuarial staff to ensure high-quality work product and professional development
  • Build and lead high-performing teams; establish ambitious goals and foster an inspiring, collaborative work environment


Business Development
  • Meet sales and bottom-line targets while maintaining strong client relationships
  • Negotiate contracts with plan sponsors and consultants; drive enterprise connectivity initiatives


Client Relationship Management
  • Develop and strengthen reinsurance partnerships and internal cross-functional relationships
  • Support the Operations team in the proper administration of placed deals
  • Collaborate with RBC legal counsel on contract terms, business procedures, and policy development


Strategic Initiatives
  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative reinsurance pricing solutions for our group annuity block of business
  • Oversee contracting, negotiations, and cross-functional coordination with Risk and Operations partners to ensure successful transaction implementation
  • Contribute to strategic planning and explore emerging technologies, including AI-driven tools, to enhance our offerings


Pricing & Market Expertise
  • Lead group annuity pricing transactions from conception through execution
  • Stay current with global longevity trends through research, industry webcasts, and market analysis


What will you need to succeed?

Must Have
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, or accounting
  • FSA/FCIA designation or ASA with equivalent combined education and experience
  • 10+ years of life insurance and/or reinsurance experience in pricing or product development
  • Strong actuarial modelling and technical skills, including proficiency with:
    • GGY Axis and DataLink
    • Power BI
    • MS Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, with a proven ability to prioritize complex tasks, meet deadlines, and drive efficiency in fast-paced environments
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly, draft precise documentation, and collaborate effectively across diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Superior customer service skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team player
  • Ability to synthesize complex market and business data for strategic decision-making


Nice to Have
  • Knowledge of Group Annuity, Reinsurance, and/or IFRS17
  • Prior experience with mortality studies and strong understanding of mortality trends
  • Predictive analytics knowledge
  • Experience managing staff
  • Experience with AI tools and pricing technology development
  • Familiarity with longevity risk and reinsurance market dynamics
  • Previous exposure to strategic initiatives and business development
  • Experience presenting to senior management and external stakeholders
