Full Job Description
Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Federal Club is a regular, full-time position in the Leadership Giving Pillar. The Federal Club is HRC's mid-level fundraising program with sustained gifts currently ranging from $100/month - $416/month ($1,200 to $4,999) from approximately 5,000 households.

The Associate Director of Federal Club is part of an energized team who provides overall strategic expertise, leadership and support to the volunteer leaders affiliated with the 31 Federal Clubs throughout the country to ensure the annual fundraising goals are met. This position works closely with members of the Board of Governors and interacts regularly with members of the Board of Directors, and HRC's senior staff.

With an emphasis on robust growth of HRC's mid-level fundraising program, this position is a combination of individual front line fundraising in partnership with HRC's volunteer program.

Position Responsibilities:

Program and Volunteer Management, Strategic Planning, Leadership, Communications & Resource Development
  • Provide overall program management and leadership in support of the Vice President of Leadership Giving and Federal Club program with a major focus on fundraising, training, and resource development.
  • Responsible for developing customized club growth and enhancement strategies for Federal Clubs based on best practices as well as new initiatives, including:
    • 1) recruitment and retention of members through event planning and one-on-one solicitations;
    • 2) donor-centered stewardship and retention strategies; and
    • 3) monthly renewal and reactivation outreach strategies to achieve annual fundraising goals
  • In collaboration with the leadership team, play a key role in developing and implementing policies, systems, and procedures to direct volunteer management in "best practices" to reach fundraising goals in Federal Clubs nationwide.
  • Responsible for managing a portfolio of local HRC Federal Clubs, leading volunteer teams in developing and executing donor-centered year-round cultivation and recruitment plans.
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers on drafting scripts for fundraising pitches, creating compelling content for events and communications, social media content development, coordinating speaker travel, and developing briefings for senior staff.
  • Collaborate with the Major Gifts Team to identify major donor prospects and upgrades and support a superior and seamless donor experience through joint cultivation activities and as donors move between the Federal Club and Federal Club Council programs.
  • Provide prospecting support to local HRC Federal Clubs by leading strategy calls with volunteer leaders to achieve annual fundraising goals.
  • As needed, travel to attend and speak at Federal Club events, trainings, and planning sessions as appropriate to support our volunteers and help achieve our goals.
  • As part of the Federal Club team, the position will share in being responsible for ongoing monitoring of overall fundraising goals, troubleshooting, and developing systems and procedures that reflect the on-going needs and changing environments of clubs to enhance club growth and efficiency capacity.
  • Manage the compilation and distribution of club-specific reports on a monthly basis to 31 clubs in service of our volunteers to achieve their goals.
  • Share in the responsibility for managing and responding to volunteer supply requests, information requests, invitation consultation and printing, and additional requested resources.

Other Responsibilities & Special Projects
  • Assist team members in specialized projects to improve program systems and services to volunteers and donors.
  • Provide support and leadership for National Federal Club events and special projects.
  • Take on special projects in needed areas including but not limited to special fundraising campaigns, management of overall stewardship efforts, and benefit fulfillment.
  • Work with the Federal Club team to develop volunteer training curriculum and materials; and coach and train volunteer leadership to be proficient in Federal Club policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Represent the Federal Club team on designated inter-departmental projects and committees.
  • Provide additional program support as needed.
  • Position will require travel and public speaking. Will travel 25% of the time (including weekend travel and evening hours).
  • Carry out additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience) with at least 5 years of successful fundraising experience, preferably with mid-level donor programs.
  • Deep commitment to and knowledge of the rapidly changing LGBTQ+ equality movement and an inherent drive to keep current on HRC's work as well as more broadly in the social justice movement.
  • Successful experience managing highly motivated and demanding volunteers and donors with a demonstrated commitment to high level customer service and donor support.
  • Excellent leadership, management, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Strong analytical and planning skills are required. Solid computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and the web.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and work gracefully under pressure. Ideal candidate will possess initiative, creativity and diplomacy.
