Full Job Description
Duties Description Reporting to a Deputy General Counsel, the incumbent of this position will serve on the defensive litigation team within the Office of General Counsel (OGC) at the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM). This team is responsible for working with the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) in representing OCM and the Cannabis Control Board (CCB) with respect to state and federal litigation.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Independently manage a full caseload of lawsuits brought in state and federal courts.
• Coordinate with other teams within OGC with respect to pending matters that include, but are not limited to, commercial disputes and employment litigation.
• Evaluate litigation risk of proposed agency actions.
• Work cooperatively with the OAG in developing strategy and preparing responsive papers defending litigation brought against OCM and the CCB, including, but not limited to, examining and gathering evidence, drafting factual affirmations, reviewing legal briefs, and conducting pre-trial discovery.
• Supervise one or more attorneys working within assigned program areas.
• Prepare briefing memoranda and recommendations for consideration by OCM and CCB leadership with respect to pending litigation.
• Perform other duties assigned by the General Counsel, First Deputy Counsel, and Deputy Counsels.

Minimum Qualifications Admission to, and member in good standing of, the New York State Bar and four years of subsequent professional legal experience.

NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES. IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK.

Additional Comments NOTE:
• Travel may be required (approximately 10%), including during evening and weekends, depending on mission and assignment.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
