Full Job Description
SUMMARY:

The Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) works with the Management Executive Committee and the Clinical Directors to provide clinical and administrative leadership for Medical Services. The ACMO shall oversee clinical facets of care for Gaylord Hospital Inpatients. The ACMO shall oversee the Department of Quality and Safety, working collaboratively with the Director of Quality and Safety on quality improvement, risk management, infection control, and regulatory compliance. The ACMO shall work with the Department of Admissions and Care Management on facilitating admissions and discharge planning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Communication and Collaboration:

CRITERIA :
  • Work with the clinical directors to coordinate allocation of clinicians to meet patient needs.
  • Work with Quality and Safety to improve care and satisfy regulatory requirements.
  • Work with Admissions and to review potential admissions for medical concerns.
  • Work with Care Management to develop and implement clinical treatment pathways consistent with a managed length of stay.
  • Oversee the decision-making process for admission and continued stay of patients.
  • Perform patient care activities, and/or oversight activity, as needed, including but not limited to rounding with staff and supervising mid-level providers, residents and medical students.
  • See inpatient consults and outpatient referrals.

Strategic Actions:

CRITERIA:
  • Work with the clinical directors on inpatient strategic planning.
  • Participate in the growth and development of the Medically Complex and PM&R Divisions.
  • Monitor market needs and respond accordingly. Maintain outcome standards and work with clinicians and administrators to identify new opportunities.

Leadership:

Criteria:
  • Establish written policies and procedures that identify the functions and responsibilities of medical staff providing treatment.
  • Become actively involved in various administrative committees and projects as determined by the CMO.
  • Assist with establishment of inpatient goals and a plan to achieve them.

Financial Stewardship and Outcomes:

CRITERIA:
  • Participate in financial planning and decision-making.
  • Participate in outcomes management, including but not limited to, program evaluation, performance improvement activities, patient satisfaction, and risk management. Responsible for sharing information with staff.
  • Monitor physician billing to ensure that all appropriate charges have been assigned and meet hospital and regulatory standards for accuracy, documentation and timeliness.
  • Support and oversee clinical quality and cost efficiency for inpatients.
