Position Summary
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Operations and Business Affairs serves as the leader for Morehouse School of Medicine's Operations and Business Affairs activities and serves as the principal advisor to the Executive Vice President (EVP) for Operations and Business Affairs. The AVP is responsible for strategic oversight of the Operations units to include providing decision support for the entire Operations team on strategy planning, analysis, and setting departmental goals. This includes partnering with the leader overseeing Administration and Finance for the team to guide the Operations units on financial planning and accounting of each unit's financial goals, plans and budgets. The Assistant Vice President (AVP) is the key principle in supporting the operations' leaders to execute their objectives for supporting the MSM enterprise. This role is a key driver for MSM's Business Affairs to achieve expansion and growth.
This leader serves in an advisory role to the Executive Vice President for Operations and Business Affairs, coordinating with other campus leaders and officials on all matters related to operations and business Affairs. Significant partners to this role include the Chief Information Officer, Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety, Facilities Director, Director of Administration and Finance, AVPs of MSM mission areas, Project Managers, Human Resource Business Partner, and other relevant roles across the organization.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Operations, Finance, or other related majors
• 7+ years in operations and fiscal management experience in an academic setting (e.g., university, medical school)
• An understanding of strategic alignment, mission-based program expansion, and operational excellence methods
Preferred Qualifications
• Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, Marketing, Health Administration or other Operations or Business Affairs concentrations from a regionally accredited institution
• 10+ years experience
• Experience working with various funding sources and managing contracts.
• Operational and financial leadership

Job Duties
Description of Job Duty
This position is responsible for partnering with the EVP to lead the operations and business affairs for Morehouse School of Medicine. This includes leadership and oversight of any professionals inside the Operations and Business Affairs organization. This includes their daily operations, coordination, and communications to ensure there is a standard set for all Operations' leaders and their engagement with constituents at MSM. The AVP should possess a high level of operations and financial knowledge, skills, and abilities and the commitment to exercise a high degree of accuracy and good judgement and decision-making. This individual will lead and collaborate on other mission related business affairs, contracts, and new partnership contracts that will expand and grow MSM. The AVP will serve as member of the EVP's Leadership Team and may lead, supervise, and direct other staff in the office and that may report to the EVP of Operations and Business Affairs.
STRATEGIC
• Work with the EVP for Operations and Business Affairs in support of new and on-going partnerships with outside organizations, expansion plans, development of mission areas, and other growth opportunities. This includes strategic leadership and business development for partnerships and new programs.
• Provides the EVP of Operations and Business Affairs with operations information relative to each unit within their span of control.
• Participates in policymaking, particularly policies and procedures with operations and business affairs implications and provides counsel to Operations and Business Affairs team members and other leaders at the institution.
• Supports (with the specific unit leaders) the growth of MSM through financial and administrative analysis. In addition, support unit leaders as needed in the growth of the operations areas.
• Responsible for putting in place safeguards across the Operations enterprise that will ensure the assets within the Operations units are protected by maintaining an effective system of internal controls that are compliant with the standardization and policies and procedures implemented by the EVP of Operations and Business Affairs.
• Serves as a principal business officer and is responsible for leading and overseeing all management of business affairs for the units and across MSM.
• Plans, directs, and participates in the delivery of operational excellence programs that support the MSM enterprise. Work with the Directors, unit leaders, and central office leaders on change management and execution of improvements in procedures, processes, and technology.
OPERATIONAL
• Work collaboratively with the EVP for Operations and Business Affairs, MSM Business Leaders, Unit leadership, and Directors with the Budget office on assumptions, needs, and requests as needed to move the priorities and forecasted goals of the operations and business affairs forward.
• Provide supervision and guidance to the unit leaders to oversee their needs, work, and institutional requirements. This is in collaboration with the EVP of Operations and Business Affairs - who has ultimate oversight responsibility with the Directors for work within their unit(s).
• The AVP may provide input and collaboration during the evaluation of the leaders within the Operations and Business Affairs unit. This is a yearly process.
• Meet regularly with the unit leaders to review unit objectives, goals, and operations. This includes frequent communication with them to support and help them through challenges and needs for their units and MSM.
• Responsible for various report submissions to the EVP for Board of Trustees meetings (3 times per year); may attend board of trustee meetings as needed.
• Works collaboratively with leaders of other programs integrating business practices and coordinating all stakeholders to ensure optimal results are achieved in fiscal management of operations and business affairs.
• Devises comprehensive and effective systems of record management in compliance with accepted accounting procedures and other compliance standards mandated by federal and state agencies.
• Develops data analytics and other survey-related data as needed.

• Proven record of overseeing operations and business affairs for an organization and other related operations and financial needs for the enterprise
• Skilled in analyzing a variety of data, developing methods for tracking and monitoring expenses.
• Ability to establish and cultivate effective relationships and teams with various levels of professionals.
• Demonstrated communication skills that include excellent organizational, people skills, and strong verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a high-volume environment.
