DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the overall maintenance operations within an assigned portion of Erie County by assisting with planning, supervising, and evaluating a wide range of roadway and bridge activities. As an Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager, you will perform the following duties:

  • Program Planning: Develop maintenance programs, estimates, and plans for roadway and bridge needs
  • Crew Supervision: Guide general and specialized crews in daily maintenance and minor construction work
  • Work Evaluation: Inspect projects, review practices, and coordinate contract oversight
  • Resource Management: Manage requisitions, monitor permits, and handle materials and equipment requests
  • Staff Leadership: Assign tasks, review performance, coach employees, and support training and development
  • Community Coordination: Work with local representatives to discuss projects and establish priorities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:
  • All positions require possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
