Job Details

Job Summary:

The Assistant General Counsel provides direct support to the General Counsel, in addition to handling numerous day-to-day legal matters for the company's many business units and locations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, pragmatic, business-minded lawyer with at least 2 years of experience including prior in-house or transactional law experience. The ideal candidate should have a desire to learn and grow in the role, and an eagerness for opportunities to develop expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including but not limited to transportation service agreements, purchase agreements, software service agreements, and property leases.
  • Managing pre-litigation and litigation matters, including correspondence and strategy planning with general counsel and outside counsel.
  • Advising the business with regard to regulatory and compliance matters in the fields of transportation, environmental, labor and human resources.
  • Providing counsel in connection with human resources, employee relations, independent contractor issues and employee benefits matters.
  • Direct management of employment-related disputes, including drafting position statements and attending mediation sessions.
  • Reviewing and providing feedback and approval on company training programs.
  • Management and oversight of contract management software.
  • Supporting the General Counsel in connection with other strategic projects and initiatives.

Requirements

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Flexibility and the ability to pivot from daily plans to managing unexpected priorities
  • Interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with and convey legal decisions to business leadership
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive)


Education and Experience:

  • 2-5 years' experience as an attorney, ideally with prior in-house or transactional law roles
  • Strong academic background and a J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Must be licensed and in good standing in at least one state - if not FL, then must be eligible to be certified as an Authorized House Counsel
  • Union/Labor law knowledge preferred


Additional Job Information

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position, and days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
