Job Summary:

The Assistant General Counsel is responsible for handling employment law and related legal matters. In particular, this role will provide counsel, representation and litigation management in connection with employment law matters, including related transactional matters, including but not limited to restrictive covenant matters, and miscellaneous other legal matters.

Job Duties:
  • Provides expertise in compliance and legal risk management in advice to management and human resource professionals on a broad range of employment issues including: recruiting; hiring; employee relations; discipline and terminations; internal investigations; leaves of absence; accommodations; wage and hour compliance; EEO compliance; compensation and benefits, affirmative action and contingent worker issues
  • Provides informal day to day training on legal developments to HR and management, formulating and revising HR policies, and provides formal training as requested
  • Provides legal counsel regarding restrictive covenant and other related contractual matters, including negotiating with opposing parties and drafting related agreements
  • Represents the firm in connection with civil, regulatory and governmental litigations, subpoenas and investigations; which includes, but is not limited to: considering and executing effective legal strategy; coordinating the gathering and production of documents; interacting with opposing, third party, governmental, regulatory, and outside counsel; drafting position statements, negotiating and drafting settlement agreements
  • Manages outside counsel on employment related matters to ensure quality advice and service at reasonable cost to the firm
  • Miscellaneous additional legal tasks which could relate to other areas of law

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:
  • Juris Doctorate (JD), required

Experience:
  • Ten (10) or more years of litigation experience as a practicing attorney in good standing, required
  • Eight (8) or more years of experience in practice focused on employment law litigation and agency defense, required
  • Five (5) or more years of experience with a law firm engaged in litigation practice, required; employment law/agency defense experience, preferred
  • Experience counseling clients on employment related legal risk analysis and compliance, required
  • Restrictive covenant experience, preferred
  • Experience managing and completing complex projects, preferred
  • Experience working directly with management level clients, preferred

License/Certifications:
  • Member of a Bar in Good Standing in state of residence, required

Software:
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suites, required

Language:
  • N/A

  • Excellent knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiation skills

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $275,000 - $330,000
Maryland Range: $275,000 - $330,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $275,000 - $330,000
