The Town of Grafton is accepting applications for the full-time position of Assistant Finance Director/Town Accountant. Under the general direction of the Finance Director, this position is responsible for the administration and oversight of the Town's accounting functions in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, applicable state and federal regulations, Town bylaws, policies, and established accounting principles.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the Town's financial records, administers accounting procedures and internal controls, monitors departmental expenditures and appropriations, processes and reviews financial transactions, and prepares required financial reports.
- Managing the daily operations of the Accounting Department.
- Maintaining the Town's general ledger and subsidiary records, coordinating reconciliations and year-end closing activities, assisting with the annual audit, and ensuring compliance with Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) reporting requirements.
- Performing and/or overseeing monthly and quarterly reconciliations.
- Investigating and resolving discrepancies and posting errors.
- Preparing required financial reports and regulatory filings.
- Assists with and coordinates annual internal and external audits.
- Serving as a resource to Town departments regarding accounting procedures, financial reporting, and budgetary matters.
- Assuming the statutory power and duties of the Finance Director in their absence.
Qualifications for this position include a Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field, and 5 to 7 years of related experience. Or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience. This is a 35-hour per-week position with a salary range of $86,563.00-$110,314.00 DOQ.
The successful applicant must have the ability to manage multiple tasks while working independently to meet deadlines. Strong attention to detail in written and oral communication is essential. Candidates must be able to work as part of a team, and be knowledgeable on all applicable Massachusetts General Laws.
