Job Details

The Assistant Director of Pharmacy provides operational leadership, administrative oversight, and clinical management for the hospital's pharmacy department. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and cost-effective distribution of medications while maintaining compliance with all state, federal, and institutional regulations. Collaborating closely with the Director of Pharmacy, The Assistant Director of Pharmacy drives quality improvement initiatives, manages pharmacy staff, and elevates patient care standards across the facility.

Job Duties

  • Personnel Management & Operations: Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate pharmacy staff. Cultivate a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and patient safety.
  • Regulatory & Quality Compliance: Ensure adherence to FDA, DEA, Department of Health, State Board of Pharmacy, and Joint Commision standards.
  • Financial Stewardship: Assist in managing the pharmaceutical budget, tracking drug expenditures, minimizing waste, and implementing cost containment strategies.
  • Clinical Integration & Safety: Collaborate with the Medical and Nursing Staff to optimize formulary management, implement medication safety protocols, and reduce medication errors through robust root cause analyes.
  • Technology & Innovation: Oversee the optimization and maintenance of pharmacy automation systems, electronic health record (EHR) workflows, and automated dispensing cabinets ADC's).


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Bachleor of Science in Pharmacy from ACPE accredited school of pharmacy.
  • 3 years Minimal of 3 years of related hospital and/or ambulatory pharmacy experience, showcasing progressive clinical or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of contemporary hospital/ambulatory pharmacy practice and clinical therapeutics.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to manage complex interpersonal dynamics and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Analytical capability to interpret clinical, operational, and financial data to drive decision making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating across diverse multidisciplinary teams.
  • RP - Registered Pharmacist - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

  • Doctorate Doctor of Pharmacy


Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
