Assistant Director of Finance

Summary of Position

The Assistant Director of Finance is responsible for assisting the Director of Finance in managing every aspect of the Finance/Accounting Division which involves supervising the team of Accounting Managers and all colleagues of the accounting department. As a key member of our finance team, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing financial operations and contributing to the success of our esteemed establishment.

Roles and Responsibilities

Core functions of the position, but are not limited to the following:
  1. Assist in the development and execution of financial strategies to achieve organizational goals.
  2. Supervise and mentor finance department colleagues, ensuring a high level of performance and adherence to policies.
  3. Collaborate with the Director of Finance to prepare comprehensive financial reports and statements.
  4. Manage day-to-day financial activities, including accounts payable, receivable, and payroll.
  5. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies.
  6. Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  7. Analyze financial data and provide insights to support decision-making.
  8. Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard financial assets.
  9. Coordinate with external auditors during audits and address any audit findings.
  10. Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and best practices in finance and accounting.
  11. Assists in the development and implementations of business plans that aligns with the hotel's overall strategy, with a primary emphasis on executing financial and accounting activities and achieving desired financial outcomes.
  12. Assists the Director of Finance with the financial planning and analysis process, including budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow forecasting and long-term financial strategy development.
  13. Oversees the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and presentations for management and stakeholders as well as addresses ad hoc needs coming from Maybourne CFO and head office.
  14. Assist in the management of the day-to-day operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general accounting functions plus work with Maybourne CFO on proper and timely debt service and liaison with the lender.
  15. Provides strategic financial guidance to middle management and department heads to support decision-making and business growth.
  16. Monitors financial performance against established goals and budgets, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
  17. Analyzes financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement.
  18. Assesses and recommends improvements to financial systems, technology, and processes to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
  19. Assist the Director of Finance with preparing the annual budget for various associations based on the management agreement and relevant documents.
  20. Ensures that the hotels financial records adhere to GAAP, IFRS, Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry, and relevant laws.
  21. Timely and accurately prepares and disseminates periodic reports.
  22. Establishes a productive business relationship with property ownership by understanding operating agreements and owner ROI expectations.
  23. Cultivates a work environment that centers on fairness, equity, colleague contentment, and business triumph.

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
  2. Proven experience (2-3 years) in a senior financial management role within the hospitality industry.
  3. Strong understanding of hospitality finance principles, including revenue management and cost control.
  4. Proficiency in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  5. Excellent analytical skills and ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
  6. Thorough knowledge of accounting standards, regulations, and best practices.
  7. Experience with financial software and systems, including ERP and property management systems.
  8. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
  9. Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  10. Leadership qualities and a track record of managing and developing teams.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Prolonged periods of standing.
  • Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
