Work Shifts

9:00 A.M - 5:00 P.M (Alternating Weekends and Holidays)

Duties & Responsibilities

The HEAL Program is a new NYC H+H initiative where the health system is the primary provider of medical services to young people in city custody. NYC H+H employed providers are responsible for 24/7 medical care across two secure detention sites, two school-based health centers, and limited pharmacy services at seven non-secure sites (group homes). Services include comprehensive medical screenings, dental screenings and procedures, vaccinations and routine testing, responses to immediate need, and referrals for offsite care within and outside the NYC H+H system.

Under the guidance of the Medical Director for the HEAL Program, the Assistant Director of Nursing will perform the following duties:

Direct Patient Care:
  • Supervise and direct Dental Assistants and Patient Care Associates in performing assigned tasks and activities
  • Supervise and direct the appropriate implementation of NYC H+H policies and procedures
  • Provide health education and health counseling as needed, to staff and patients
  • Make recommendations regarding patient flow and triage to ensure that patients are seen as scheduled and in a timely fashion

Administration:
  • Implement Policies and Procedures, in collaboration with Medical Director and under the guidance of the Program Director
  • Attend case conferences and agency meetings, as requested by the Medical Director and Program Director
  • Facilitate HIM management for all sites
  • Provide in-service training and competency testing to ensure that DAs and PCAs meet quality improvement standards
  • Facilitate management of clinic sites by acting as a resource to DAs and PCAs through guidance for ordering necessary supplies, medication, equipment, and inventory

Quality Improvement:
  • Participate in Quality Improvement Team meetings and implement quality improvement recommendations as made by the QI team
  • Responsible for monitoring the maintenance of all QC/QI logs, including temperature logbooks, medication inventory logs, Immunization Registry, lab and PPD log, CLIA-waived lab QC logs, HIV Reporting log etc.

Utilization Reviews:
  • Communicate with contracted lab for problem resolution and quarterly reporting of Utilization Reviews and Summary Report to Medical Director and others as needed.
  • Review Purchase Orders with pharmacy and provider quarterly reporting as needed

Infection Control:
  • Maintain biomedical waste removal system and tracking
  • Participate in Infection Control Committee, and implement recommendations as adopted by the Committee

Assignment, Review And Approval Of Work:
  • The Medical Director and Program Director may assign other duties, assignments, and special projects, as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below.
2. Master's degree in nursing administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.
3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.

Department Preferences

  1. At least three years of experience with the clinical profession, including supervisory experience
  2. Experience in Pediatric and Adolescent care
  3. Can respond effectively in emergency situations
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  5. Ability to de-escalate difficult situations in a calm and professional manner
  6. Maintains accuracy in documentation and completes reports in a timely manner
