Full Job Description
Office of the Academic Discovery and Impact (OADI) seeking an Assistant Director, EOP/HEOP, OADI, Student Advising and Engagement.

This is a full time, 40 hour/week, on-campus position (within daily commuting distance from Ithaca, NY). This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with four days a week in office, one day remote to be determined at the time of hire. Fully remote work is not available for this position.

The Opportunity

If you have a passion for supporting the achievement first-generation, low-income, opportunity program scholars; look no further. Reporting to the Director, OADI/Director of Student Opportunity Programs, the Assistant Director of EOP/HEOP and OADI, Student Advising and Engagement will:

  • Provide operational leadership and oversight of student opportunity programs in the Director's absence, ensuring continuity of program operations, services, and priorities.
  • Provide academic, personal, and financial advising to students utilizing the services offered by OADI, primarily supporting students enrolled in the Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program and Higher Education Opportunity Program (EOP/HEOP).
  • Create and implement leadership development programs for OADI students including leading the OADI Peer Mentor Program.
  • Recruit, evaluate and assist in the selection of students in coordination with Undergraduate Admissions Office, College Admissions Offices and OADI. May be required to travel within New York State to present the University and EOP/HEOP to prospective students, families, and high school partners.
  • Manage EOP/HEOP transfer admissions process.
  • Working directly with the OVPUE and the co-chairs of PAAL to be a contributing member of the university-wide Professional Academic Advising Leaders (PAAL) community.


What We Will Need

Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Administration, Social Sciences or related field and at least 3 years of full time work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Knowledge of student development theory and how to implement it in various one-on-one situations.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with key university administrators in a complex campus structure.
  • Experience working with underrepresented and disadvantaged populations. A strong team orientation is essential. Excellent writing, organizational, interpersonal, and computer skills.
  • Interpretation of established work policies and procedures is required. Duties also involve related steps, processes or methods provided by the State. Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • Master's degree in related area preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience advising and counseling college students.
  • Experience leading and developing groups. Experience developing leadership programs for students. Experience with marketing, social media, and communication efforts.
  • Multilingual preferred. Experience with opportunity programs strongly preferred.
