Assistant Controller - Self-Clearing Broker-DealerPosition SummaryThe Assistant Controller is a key member of the Finance team at a self-clearing broker-dealer, responsible for both general accounting functions and regulatory financial reporting. This role supports the firm's financial integrity and regulatory compliance by ensuring accurate books and records, timely financial close, and adherence to SEC and FINRA requirements. The Assistant Controller works closely with Finance leadership, Operations, and Compliance and plays an active role in audits, regulatory filings, and financial controls.
Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Accounting- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes in accordance with GAAP
- Maintain accurate general ledger activity across multiple business lines and clearing functions
- Analyze financial statements and investigate variances
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting
- Support internal controls and documentation related to accounting processes
- Coordinate with external auditors during financial statement audits and examinations
Regulatory & Broker-Dealer Responsibilities- Prepare and review regulatory filings including FOCUS Reports and supporting schedules
- Monitor net capital, customer reserve computations (Rule 15c3-1 and 15c3-3), and liquidity requirements
- Maintain and reconcile books and records in compliance with SEC and FINRA regulations
- Support regulatory examinations and respond to information requests from FINRA, SEC, and other regulators
- Partner with Operations and Compliance to ensure accurate regulatory reporting and timely issue resolution
- Assist with implementation of new regulatory requirements and accounting standards
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including experience with a self-clearing broker-dealer
- Direct experience with regulatory reporting for broker-dealers
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and SEC/FINRA financial reporting requirements
- Experience with FOCUS reporting, net capital, and customer reserve calculations
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with broker-dealer accounting systems a plus
This is an on-site position in downtown Manhattan
Salary 120-135k base DOE
