  • Troubleshoot ERP issues and support data integrity and reporting accuracy
  • Collaborate with operations and supply chain on financial impacts
  • Assist with month-end reporting and variance analysis.

Assistant Controller
Location: 85 Morrow Road, Barrie, Ontario
Employment Type: Permanent | Full-Time | Onsite

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, this role is responsible for supporting all finance functions and provides leadership in decision making, risk management and external compliance. This role works closely with the Director to ensure consistent accounting, approvals, problem solving and cross-functional collaboration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Decision Making & Approvals

  • Review and approve customer credit applications.
  • Oversee slow moving inventory and obsolete inventory management strategies.
  • Approve bank payments and support cash flow management.
  • Conduct gross margin, BOM, and costing analysis, monitoring, and recommendations.
  • Provide guidance and support to the accounting team for escalated issues, and act as the back up to the Director of Finance.
2. Risk and Compliance
  • Manage banking relationships and complete treasury activities.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax auditors - handling CRA, US tax and cross border compliance.
  • Oversee tariff, customs and duty related issues.
  • Ensure internal controls and financial policies are executed and followed.

3. Systems and Process Improvement
  • Troubleshoot ERP related issues.
  • Support data integrity and reporting accuracy.
  • Collaborate with operations, supply chain and sales on financial impacts.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
4. Support Month-End Reporting
  • Review reconciliations and schedules prepared by the accounting team.
  • Assist with variance analysis and management reporting.
  • Provide oversight to ensure timely and accurate month-end close.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and/or 5+ years progressive experience in accounting and finance.
  • 5+ years of plant accounting experience, with an expertise in costing, inventory, planning and budgeting.
  • Experience in industrial manufacturing and the understanding of production processes and procedures.
  • Experience with intercompany transactions.
  • Advanced working knowledge of QuickBooks, ERP systems and Excel formulations.
  • This position requires strong collaboration, and the ability to partner with multiple business leaders within the organization.
