About the RoleThe Finance department is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Assistant Controller to support the Controller in leading AKRF's accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls while driving process improvements and operational excellence. This role offers increasing leadership responsibility and strategic exposure within the engineering consulting industry, particularly within the ACEC framework, and serves as a clear pathway to the Controller position for the right candidate.
Job Responsibilities:- Assist in overseeing accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, payroll, cost accounting, and revenue recognition
- Lead the month-end and year-end close process with accuracy and timeliness
- Ensure compliance with FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation), GAAP, and other regulatory frameworks
- Support internal and external financial audits and serve as a key point of contact with auditors
- Support the Controller and CFO with financial strategy, risk management, and long-term planning
- Assist in preparing accurate and timely financial reporting for the executive team and Board
- Support the supervision and development of accounting staff; contribute to a high-performance, accountable team culture
- Collaborate with project managers and leadership on budget forecasting, job costing, and profitability analysis
- Maintain and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Manage indirect cost rates and prepare overhead rate submissions to various State and Local agencies.
- Partner with HR and operations on payroll, benefits, and tax compliance matters
Essential Requirements:- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior accounting or assistant controller capacity
- Prior experience in the architecture, engineering, or environmental consulting industry; ACEC-member firm background highly preferred
- Deep knowledge of project-based accounting, FAR, and indirect cost rate calculations
CompensationCompensation will range from $150K to $175K and commensurate with experience.
