What’s the role

Shell is looking for an Asset Engineer to join our team at the Sewaren Terminal in New Jersey.

This role is responsible for providing engineering leadership and technical expertise to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of terminals, pipelines, marine facilities, storage facilities, and related infrastructure. The position leads risk management, reliability improvement, maintenance strategies, and project execution while partnering across operations, maintenance, integrity, HSSE, and project teams to optimize asset performance and deliver business value.

This position is primarily site-based at the Sewaren Terminal in New Jersey, with a requirement to be on site at least four days per week. Travel of up to 40% within the region is required to support other assets.

Accountabilities:

• Provide day-to-day facility engineering support for terminals, pipelines, storage facilities including API 653 inspections on Tanks, marine infrastructure, and related assets to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations

• Monitor asset performance and reliability, identifying opportunities to improve equipment availability, efficiency, lifecycle performance, and overall operational effectiveness

• Lead technical troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts, investigating equipment failures, operational issues, and performance gaps while developing sustainable engineering solutions

• Manage technical risks and asset threats through risk assessments, Management of Change (MOC) processes, incident investigations, and mitigation planning using a risk-based approach

• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, regulatory requirements, process safety expectations, and asset management system requirements, providing technical assurance across assigned assets

• Develop and implement maintenance, asset care, and reliability strategies in partnership with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, and Asset Integrity teams to achieve reliability and availability targets

• Lead and support capital and expense projects from concept development through design, construction, commissioning, startup, and handover to operations

• Develop project scopes, manage contractors, and oversee procurement activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and aligned with business and operational needs

• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including Operations, Maintenance, HSSE, Asset Integrity, Project Delivery, Technical Authorities, and Engineering Specialists, to drive asset performance and business outcomes

• Support asset planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives, identifying threat mitigation opportunities, reliability enhancements, and value-creation projects across the asset portfolio

What you bring

• Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preference is Mechanical or Process Engineering or in any related field

• At least 5 years of experience in facility engineering, operations engineering, project engineering, reliability engineering, or related disciplines

• Experience in Project Management, experience managing contractors working within an operating environment

• Experience managing Turnarounds, Maintenance Engineering is required

• Working knowledge of process safety and risk management

• Experience supporting operating assets and/or capital project delivery

• Experience in terminal operations, pipelines, storage facilities, refining, chemical, or other asset-intensive industries preferred

What we offer

The base salary range for this position is $124,000 - $186,000 per year.  Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance.
