Job Description

We are looking for a talented Assembly Quality Leader to join our team specializing in Quality for our Cummins Inc. facility in Seymour, IN.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
  • Drive site-wide quality excellence by leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the plant quality system.
  • Strengthen operational performance by managing and empowering the plant quality team to meet Cummins Operating System and operational goal-tree objectives.
  • Influence strategic outcomes by leading the quality function's contribution to the Annual Operating Plan and setting clear priorities for quality projects and resources.
  • Protect customers and the business by ensuring product quality, initiating work stoppages when necessary, and maintaining rigorous adherence to all quality standards and audits.
  • Accelerate performance improvements by overseeing key initiatives such as RFT, cost-of-poor-quality reductions, Product Quality Council reviews, and improvement team governance.
  • Advance long-term quality capability by ensuring compliance with IATF, APQP, PPAP, and customer-specific requirements while integrating emerging technologies and best-in-class quality practices.
  • Champion continuous improvement by leading Lean, 7-step problem solving, Six Sigma, and intelligent quality tool deployment, while developing Quality Engineers and Metrology teams.
  • Create organizational value by acting as a strategic change agent-deploying new technologies, enhancing stakeholder value, reducing environmental impact, and solving complex problems more efficiently.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
  • Strengthen customer relationships and lead quality-driven decision-making by maintaining a customer-centric mindset, influencing stakeholders effectively, and ensuring quality requirements guide balanced business decisions.
  • Develop and elevate talent by coaching, mentoring, and attracting top talent while building a high-performing team aligned to organizational goals and future capability needs.
  • Apply advanced quality, problem-solving, and Quality 4.0 expertise through strong command of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, statistical analysis, digitization, and modern quality-management tools to drive measurable improvement and long-term process capability.
  • Demonstrate operational and manufacturing knowledge by effectively managing resources, integrating Quality 4.0 technologies, implementing process changes, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement grounded in the Cummins Operating System.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
Demonstrated role competence is required. College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering or a related technical or scientific subject or experience equivalent is required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:
Significant relevant work experience required. Preferably 5-7 years' experience in Manufacturing, Engineering or Program Management role in the automotive industry or a similarly regulated industry.
Minimum of 3 years of managerial experience preferred.

Additional Information:
  • Prior experience with engine systems or engine-related components is strongly preferred and will significantly enhance effectiveness in this role.
  • Lead SEP Assembly Quality across all assembly lines and engine test operations, aligning team objectives, priorities, and execution to consistently meet or exceed plant and customer expectations.
  • Due to the nature of this role, which supports multiple shifts, flexibility in work hours is highly valued.Standard hours are typically 7:30 a.m. to 4:00/5:00 p.m.; however, the selected candidate should be willing to adjust their schedule as needed, including occasional early start times (as early as 6:00-6:30 a.m.) approximately two to three times per month, and limited weekend support in emergency situations.
  • Develop and lead Quality Engineering talent, building strong technical capability, leadership depth, and a culture of accountability, ownership, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Foster a highly collaborative Quality team, encouraging peer support, knowledge sharing, and joint problem-solving across lines and functions.
  • Drive quality performance by setting clear priorities, allocating resources effectively, and ensuring on-time delivery of all quality-related commitments and initiatives.
  • Maintain full accountability for product quality, to identify quality risk and to help drive decisions to stop production, and ensuring robust containment, root cause analysis, and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Lead site-level quality improvement initiatives to achieve and sustain plant KPIs, including Right First Time (RFT) and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), with a strong focus on preventing customer complaints.
  • Champion continuous improvement and problem-solving excellence, leveraging Lean principles, structured problem-solving methodologies, and advanced quality tools to drive sustainable results.
