Full Job Description
We are currently recruiting a Physicist whose ultimate primary responsibility will be to plan and set-up experiments within these facilities. The Physicist will work in tandem with other specialists and facility personnel to ensure the success of the rare-isotope science program at TRIUMF, and will manage, maintain, operate, and troubleshoot measurements with a wide assortment of detectors, readout electronics, and data acquisition systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Liaise with external users in the nuclear physics experimental program, assisting with the preparation and operation of experiments
  • Under the direction of the supervisor, plan and set-up experiments within the nuclear physics experimental research program
  • Maintain, operate, repair, and plan the deployment of a suite of nuclear physics detectors within the ARIEL program.
  • Work with various departments in Physical Science Division, providing experiment-specific training as required through written documents, on-the-job training, and input and advice for planning experimental campaigns
  • Perform light industrial, mechanical and electrical tasks as required, and performing all work safely and efficiently
  • Procure, monitor and manage the budget for the inventory of tools, spare parts, etc. needed for associated tasks
  • Plan, organize and effectively manage all tasks and project work
  • Assist in preparing experimental safety reports


SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
  • Expected to provide guidance and assistance to more junior employees across multiple teams
  • May provide guidance to students


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Advanced level knowledge of nuclear physics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of nuclear physics detectors, techniques, and simulations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in planning, organization, and efficient time management.
  • Experience with signal processing and data acquisition systems would be an asset
  • Experience working with HV and UHV systems would be an asset
  • Experience with CAD would be an asset
  • Programming experience in C++/ ROOT would be an asset


NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER:

The incumbent will be required to complete the TRIUMF in-house radiation safety training course and be designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
  • A PhD in nuclear physics or a related field is required
  • Typically requires a minimum of 4 years of professional experience post-PhD
  • Hands-on experience with detectors typically used in nuclear physics experiments
  • Several years of relevant postdoc experience would be an asset


COMPENSATION:
Annual salary would be $91,545.00 CAD plus our comprehensive benefits package.
