Position SummaryAs part of a Team Based Care Model, this APP will provide hospital coverage to support the surgical team to provide prompt consultation and crisis management for the general surgery population.
In collaboration with the collaborating or supervising physician the APP will:
- Assists in prompt consultations from the emergency department and hospital units
- First assist in the operating room, as well as min invasive robotic surgery and general cases.
- Perform history and physical examinations and clinical evaluations including provision of preoperative and postoperative care.
- Perform hospital rounding, follow-up care, and discharges on surgical population
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic imaging studies.
- Order, monitor and/or administer medications, including controlled dangerous substances
- Performs timely follow-up.
- Demonstrates ability to solve complex patient problems by making sound clinical judgements based on synthesis of concepts, principles, models, theories, and evidence-based practice.
- Ensures timely documentation of clinical findings, impression, and treatment plan
- Serve on call, weekend rotation, and flexible work hours as required.
Primary Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Always demonstrates and models service excellence behavior. Responds with concern, cooperation, and respect. Establishes cooperative working relationships with all individuals with whom contact is made.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Utilizes appropriate and effective patient care plans. Completes documentation concurrently as patients are seen.
- Assures continuity of care through adequate scheduling and tracking of return visits, completion of treatment plans, and follow-up of chronic problems, abnormal tests, and "no-shows."
- Provides periodic health screening and preventive care including baseline and interval physical exams, cardiac risk appraisals, treatment and interventions. Provides appropriate patient education including clear explanation of treatment; the use and side effects of prescribed medications; health maintenance; and the use of appropriate educational "handouts" or other written instructions.
- Delegates clinical tasks appropriate to the level of training of each staff member.
- Provides an accounting of services rendered and accurate, specific diagnosis codes for each patient by completing appropriate billing/reimbursement documentation.
- Utilizes infection control and safety protocols appropriately.
- Maintains familiarity with practice's on-site diagnostic procedures and equipment.
- Ensures the professional development of self and team, i.e., pursues continuing education opportunities and shares knowledge as appropriate with other members of the health care team; participates in professional organizations; reads professional journals and texts; etc.
- Participates in the practice's "on-call" schedules as needed. Is available for emergency calls from VMG staff or physicians.
- Identifies opportunities to improve processes, reports, or systems that take advantage of cost savings, employee satisfaction, and/or customer satisfaction. Promotes and practices economical and effective healthcare.
- Completes in a timely manner all managed care applications, credentialing, and re-credentialing requests from the corporate office.
- Abides by guidelines established by all managed care and insurance payors including Medicare.
- Participates in the Corporate and office-specific business development and strategic planning process. Supports actions that promote the achievement of VMG's strategic and tactical goals and objectives.
- Collaborates, trains and/or supervises Advanced Practice Clinicians within the department as needed.
Education- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program as determined by the Committee on Allied Health. Education and Accreditation or a current Registered Professional Nurse and Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program/master's in nursing.
- Current Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or for Advanced Practice Nurses a current Board Certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) in specialty and Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) certification.
- Hold a valid, current New Jersey license.
- Obtain a New Jersey CDS and federal DEA certificate upon employment if not already covered.
- NIFA certified to first assist in Operating Room if APN with minimum of 1 year of clinical OR experience, primarily in area of specialty.
- Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem solving.
- Participation in pertinent professional and/or specialty organizations preferred.
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Maintains up-to-date credentials including CV, License, DEA, CDS, Board Certification, ACLS certification preferred, documentation of hospital admitting privileges, copies of managed care contracts.
- Maintains CME credit hours as required for Board Certification and/or hospital staff privileges.
Salary- Minimum new grad base salary $144,500 K. Salary commensurate with years of experience as an NP/PA.
- Ability to earn up to 5% quality incentive
