Position Description: We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated API Quality Engineering (QE) Lead to drive API testing strategy, automation, and quality engineering initiatives across enterprise applications. This role is ideal for a technical leader who is passionate about building scalable automation solutions, fostering engineering excellence, and championing quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
As the API QE Lead, you will be responsible for designing and implementing enterprise-grade API automation frameworks, establishing testing standards and best practices, and leading quality engineering efforts across multiple projects and teams. You will work closely with developers, architects, product owners, DevOps teams, and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of reliable, high-quality applications.
Your future duties and responsibilities: API Quality Engineering Leadership
Lead API Quality Engineering activities across multiple projects, products, and programs.
Define and drive API testing strategies to support quality objectives and business goals.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to QA engineers and automation team members.
Promote a culture of quality, continuous improvement, and automation-first practices.
Automation Framework Design and Development
Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reusable API test automation frameworks.
Establish automation architecture, coding standards, and testing best practices across teams.
Drive framework enhancements to improve maintainability, scalability, performance, and execution efficiency.
Conduct automation code reviews and provide coaching to team members.
API Test Automation
Develop and execute automated API tests covering functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end scenarios.
Create comprehensive test coverage for RESTful APIs, SOAP services, GraphQL APIs, and microservices-based applications.
Validate API functionality, performance, reliability, security requirements, and business workflows.
Perform JSON and XML payload validation, schema validation, and API contract testing.
CI/CD and Quality Integration
Integrate automated API testing into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing and rapid feedback.
Collaborate with DevOps teams to improve automation execution, reporting, and deployment quality gates.
Support automation execution within modern development environments and release pipelines.
Drive automation adoption and quality engineering best practices across development teams.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
Partner with developers, architects, product owners, business stakeholders, and DevOps teams to embed quality throughout the development lifecycle.
Participate in technical discussions, solution reviews, and planning activities to identify quality risks early.
Communicate testing progress, quality metrics, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve defects and improve overall product quality.
Quality Metrics and Continuous Improvement
Monitor test execution results and analyze defects, trends, and quality metrics.
Provide regular reporting on automation coverage, execution success rates, defect trends, and quality outcomes.
Identify opportunities to improve framework capabilities, automation effectiveness, and testing processes.
Drive ongoing innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the Quality Engineering practice.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role: 5+ years of overall Quality Engineering or Software Testing experience.
5+ years of hands-on API test automation experience.
3+ years of experience leading API automation initiatives, quality engineering programs, or QA teams.
Proven experience designing and building enterprise-scale API automation frameworks from the ground up.
Demonstrated success driving automation adoption and quality engineering best practices across teams.
Technical Skills
Strong experience with API test automation tools and frameworks, including:
Rest Assured
Karate
Postman/Newman
Similar API automation technologies
Expertise testing:
RESTful APIs
SOAP services
GraphQL APIs
Microservices-based applications
Strong programming skills in Java (preferred) or Python.
Experience with automation frameworks such as:
JUnit
TestNG
Cucumber
Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using:

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives.
Experience with Parasoft and Rest Assured.
Experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure.
Knowledge of service virtualization and API mocking tools.
Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases for backend data validation.
Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and DevOps methodologies and practices.
Experience working within large-scale enterprise application environments.
