Description and Requirements

General Description: Serve as Team Leader for broker consultant team members. Manage a book of brokers and their business as assigned. Responsible for coordination of day-to-day customer service and supporting the broker-Emerson Rogers (ER) relationship. Act as a liaison between the insurance carrier and broker. Assist with training brokers and perform rate/renewal analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with development of broker consultant team members. Includes onboarding, mentoring, and providing feedback on performance.
  • Serve as team resource for technical expertise on industry and process.
  • Assist with the development of team standards and processes.
  • Escalate issues with carriers for self and on behalf of Level 1 and 2 broker consultant team members.
  • Approve submissions within commission database.
  • Work with VIP Brokers determined by value of business and level of difficulty. Includes frequent contact and meetings with brokers.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and vendors.
  • Resolve day-to-day service issues for brokers and vendors. Assist with claims and billing problems.
  • Respond to carrier and/or broker specific questions. Ensure new business, renewals, and broker of record letters meet the requirements of the writing carrier.
  • Process plan changes submitted by account executives, broker consultants, and brokers. Includes policy changes, endorsements, and other requests.
  • Provide follow-up communication and approvals on plan changes and open enrollment issues.
  • Build and maintain enrollment website for clients.
  • Work with account executives, broker consultants, and brokers in quoting renewal alternatives and new business.
  • Work with account executives and vendors to negotiate rates, secure new business, and maintain existing business.
  • Process new business applications. Ensure cases are installed quickly and accurately by the vendor.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities for other lines of coverage.
  • Enter data commission database.
  • Update client database on an ongoing basis. Create and maintain case files of critical client information based on implemented workflows.
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure service and turn-around times meet ER standards.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with brokers, vendors, and internal staff.
  • Stay urgent with insurance regulations, carrier plan options, underwriting rules, and other value add programs offered by Emerson Rogers.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a group health insurance setting preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Must hold a Life & Health license or obtain within three months from date of hire.
  • Familiarity with products, services, competitive offerings, market needs, industry trends, and claims procedures.
  • Understanding of alternate funding arrangements. Includes full and partially insured, minimum premium, and self-insured.
  • Strong analytical skills. Ability to use and interpret benefit related facts and figures.
  • Ability to creatively and proactively problem-solve.
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to set priorities and manage deadlines.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Includes ability to maintain relationships with brokers and carriers.
  • Ability to work independently and in a busy, team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
