Full Job Description
In alignment with the AVC's vision for Student Health and Counseling Services, the Ancillary Services Director oversees and directs the operations of the laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and optometry departments within Student Health and Counseling Services at UC Davis, with a high degree of autonomy. The Director ensures these departments operate efficiently, meet all regulatory and accreditation requirements, and contribute to high-quality, student-centered care. The Director also supports quality delivery and operational efficiency across the medical services of SHCS.

A critical mission of this role is to ensure the financial sustainability and profitability of the ancillary departments through strategic development, operational efficiency, and effective financial management. The Director provides data-driven guidance and operational insights to the senior leadership team, advising on departmental performance, resource needs, and business opportunities. The Director is a member of the SHCS's senior leadership and serves on committees as assigned. This role reports to the Medical Director and maintains a dotted line to the AVC.

Department Overview

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health, urgent care, laboratory, pharmacy, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness. SHCS has approximately 200 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), and IACS (International Association for Counseling Services). Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or managerial experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience with financial oversight, revenue management, budgeting, and profitable service line operations.
  • Demonstrated success in regulatory compliance, healthcare operations, and staff leadership.
  • Thorough knowledge of health care delivery models, business and strategic planning, financial management, and organizational development.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of regulations and accreditation standards for ancillary healthcare services.
  • Ability to manage complex projects, problem-solve, and lead process improvement initiatives.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree, e.g. masters or professional degree in relevant field (e.g. MBA, MHA, MPH, etc) or a professional clinical degree (e.g. PN, PharmD, etc.) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience overseeing laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, or optometry operations.
  • Experience in higher education or non-profit setting.
