This role is about understanding a business domain, documenting the objects and definitions it works with, and turning that understanding into usable data models. The person works directly with the domain owners, maps their business ontology, designs the data model and the data products, and documents definitions and calculation rules so they can be reused.
What you will do
• Understand a business domain: its mission, processes, source systems and what it measures.
• Map the domain ontology: business objects, their definitions, their relationships and their system of record.
• Document definitions, measures and calculation rules, and have them validated by the domain owners.
• Design the dimensional data model (facts, dimensions, granularity, keys) and the semantic model used for consumption.
• Map business objects to source tables and specify the transformation logic required.
• Work with data engineering to have the required layers built, and validate the result.
• Produce data product documentation: what it contains, how calculations work, how it is consumed.
• Contribute to data governance: data ownership and accountability, classification, catalogue, naming conventions and change management.
• Validate the model with the domain by testing its real requests against the model elements.
• Produce the reports and visualisations needed to validate and activate the model.
This role could be for you if you have
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, business intelligence, data analytics, management, engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in data modelling and data analysis.
• Demonstrated command of dimensional modelling: star schemas, granularity, conformed dimensions, history management.
• Experience designing semantic models for business users, including measures and documentation.
• Strong SQL and a working understanding of data ingestion and transformation.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric.
• Ability to run discovery sessions with business teams and turn them into structured requirements.
• Documentation discipline: able to write clear, unambiguous definitions and maintain them over time.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain analytical concepts in plain language.
• Initiative: challenge requests where needed, identify improvement opportunities and propose solutions beyond the stated need.
• Ability to manage several topics simultaneously and work autonomously.
Assets
• Experience in dashboard development and data visualisation (Power BI).
• Command of Python, Spark and the wider data engineering tooling.
• Experience working in a domain-oriented model, where each business domain is accountable for its own data.
• Data governance experience: catalogue, classification, access management and change management.
• Experience with enterprise financial or operational systems.
• Experience in the construction or manufacturing sectors.
