This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
As part of this team, you will be responsible for performing and overseeing structural analysis applied across the New Glenn vehicle. This is a hands-on position that involves all aspects of structural analysis, including: configuration development and trade studies, developing novel and efficient approaches to challenging analysis problems, supporting material allowables testing, authoring, and scrutinizing detailed analysis reports for production, supporting test development, performing post-test analysis, analyzing structural retrofits, and more. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Responsibilities:
- Analysis, development, and testing of primary and secondary structures, including composites and metallic piece parts, as well as integrated structural assemblies.
- Create Finite Element Models, analysis packages, and interface control documents
- Provide technical guidance for integration and general Liaison Engineering support.
- Create test plans, specifications, and other documentation for the development of flight hardware

Qualifications:
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil engineering
- Ability to generate free-body diagrams to calculate internal loads and reaction forces, and help simplify and idealize structural problems of varying complexity
- Strong experience with classical and aerospace analysis methods (Bruhn, Niu, Roark, Blodgett, Mark’s Shigley, etc.)
- Familiarity with typical structural requirements, criteria, and failure modes from one or more related fields, e.g., aerospace, civil, marine, automotive
- Experience with finite element modeling and use of all element types (beams, plates, solids, etc.). Proven ability to model large or complex assembly structures. Able to perform model verification and validation, and trouble-shoot model crashes.
- Demonstrated proficiency with one or more of the following finite element software packages: NASTRAN, Optistruct/Hyperworks, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna

Desired:
- General knowledge of composite materials, manufacturing processes, typical defects and repairs
- Familiarity with vibration analysis
- Analysis process automation and/or scripting (VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN, etc.)
- Experience with national Consensus standards such as AISC 360 or ASME BTH-1
- Engineer in Training
Base Pay Range for:
WA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35

- Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
