OverviewReporting to the Manager, Performance Analytics and Reporting, the Analyst is responsible for supporting the OEB's utility performance analysis and reporting activities. This includes working with other OEB groups to manage utility data submission processes and providing analytical insight to assist the Board in policy development and decision making. The Performance Analytics and Reporting department monitors financial and non-financial performance of Ontario's electricity and natural gas distributors, as well as other regulated entities.
Responsibilities- Initiates and develops plans to achieve, and deliver data analytics based on financial accounting, customer and performance reported by utilities.
- Identifies relevant issues and provides in-depth analysis associated with financial and non-financial data for regulated entities.
- Provides analytics expertise to internal and external stakeholders regarding data gathered and insights into correlations & trends seen through utility reporting.
- Working closely with other departments supports policy implementation through specialized reporting requirements and data analysis.
- Conceptualizes and builds analytical models to improve reporting and industry analytics and presents information to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Delivers on projects related to performance assessment (e.g., enhancement of utilities scorecard).
- Collaboratively works with other team members on analytics best practices and utility operations.
- Prepares and/or reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical and project status reports/publications, ensuring information published is accurate and thorough.
- Develops and/or enhances new and/or existing policies and procedures.
Qualifications- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance; Economics; Data Science; Engineering or a related field.
- An accounting, engineering or finance professional designation is highly preferred.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in the energy sector including performance assessment, industry insights, asset management or system planning.
- 2+ years' experience translating large data sets into actionable information and valuable insights for decision making purposes.
- Experience and knowledge of electric utility performance metrics, including key drivers and challenge.
- 2+ years' experience in a utility or regulatory environment is preferred.
- Previous working experience with data analytical solutions and tools such as Excel, SQL, VBA, Oracle BI, SAS, R, Tableau, Alteryx.
- Knowledge of financial/management reporting.
- Practical knowledge supporting projects with interdisciplinary teams, understanding stakeholder expectations, and managing own project timelines / deliverables.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998 and related regulatory policies is an asset.
